It is relevant, getting a 7990 is almost as good as having x2 R9 280X.

If you want to make something like a crazy mini ITX gaming rig go for it! But don't pay over $500...

Scouting for rebates you can get a R9 280X NEW for $260

If i were able to pick up a 7990 do you guys still think it would be worth it?

 

Edit: At what price point do you think i might as well just get a newer card?

i'm pretty sure the 290 and 290X are cheaper but the 7990 is better

It's a crazy loud mini oven. Other than that it's pretty good.

 

Edit: 400-450 bucks

Yeah, but the 7990 is much more expensive... it's basically a dual gpu card with 2 r9 280x gpus.

It all depends on the price. At the moment there is still no single gpu card that can beat a 7990, however if you can crossfire r9 290s it would be cheaper and faster. I would say a 7990 becomes worth buying under the 600$ price tag. Over that price, as I said two r9 290s are the way to go.

I have an R9 280X and would reccomend it over the 7990 but its your choise.. It's a decent value card for  the power (280X)

I had a 7990... sold it after a few months. Then bought a GTX 780... However now I am using a R9 290X :)

Driver support was appalling. Everytime I updated my drivers my 2nd GPU would disable itself, micro stutter was bad also it was loud and got really hot... List goes on.

That's...disconcerting :( AMD does appear to have fixed micro stutter though, and i guess watercooling is always and option...

Get it and get a custom water block for it, a 7990 is dual 7970 which is basicly a 280x making it dual 280x in 1 card form, so if you are making a small rig it will be good.

Only pay like 400$ new or 300$ used and water cool it
