Should I cancel my order?

aduman

Hi everyone!

I was reading some posts here lately and they made me doubt my decision...

I've ordered 2 EVGA 780 sc acx 6GB gpus (decision was made here on a thread) but they will be shipped around next week.

On the posts I read everyone was saying things like the 780s wouldn't benefit from the extra VRAM as the GPU power wouldn't be enough after 3GB of VRAM usage. Also everyone was recommending the Tis over the 780s... I know the extra vram will not make the card faster but it would prevent bottlenecking for sure. On a single 780 6 gigs of vram is imo pointless, but on SLI it could be a gamechanger.

My current monitor is a 120 Hz 1080p one but I frequently game on 3D and it halves the frame rates, and single card can't provide around 120Hz fps these days. I'll be upgrading to the ROG Swift too.

Cancelling the order and price difference is not a problem at all btw.

Thank you guys!

Edit: You can assume I have the ROG Swift monitor from Asus, a 1440p 144Hz one as I'm getting it very very soon.

Cancel it.

At 1080p 6GB of ram won't help at all.

At 1440p with the ROG swift it's debateable but I think in a majority of situations, ones that aren't like watchdogs, you'll see more benefit from a more powerful card than you will from more vram.

You're better off getting a GTX 780 ti sli

If you have ordered it just keep the order. There is no point in downgrading. :)

It's not downgrading, he'd be getting two more powerful cards.

It's either 2x 3GB 780 Ti s or 2x 6GB 780 s.

I'd cancel the order and just get one GPU. You don't need a whole lot of Vram for a 1080p display to be honest.

Or you could always send me the 2nd card free of charge because I provide brilliant advice.

The extra VRAM would only help if you're running games at a very high resolution like 4K.. I've never had any issues with running games with my single 3 GB 780, even at 1440p..

i7 not perfectly stable at 4.4.. #firstworldproblems

Guys the current order is for two 780 6gb ones not Tis.

Btw the 1080p will be gone when the swift monitor comes out

Look through this review.

It has a GTX 780 6GB.

A majority of benchmarks the 6GB 780 falls behind the 3GB 780 ti.

You're proposing getting a weaker card, but with more Vram;I'm showing you that the extra Vram even at high resolutions will make less difference than a more powerful card.

Come on guys, I need advice from you! Please... :D

Crysis 3 uses 2.7GB of Vram @ 1600P therefore OP needs more than 3GB Vram to game @ 4K. OP stick with the 6GB cards especially if you play modded skyrim and thank me later.

vram for 1440p isnt big change from 1080p true

the 6gb will be useful with big textures, anti aliasing definitly usable for new games and especially texture modding

So now OP is gaming at 4K?

When OP replaces his $800 monitor, most likely not anytime soon, there'll be a better card out there to run at 4K.

1440p =/= 4k

but you are right about crysis and skyrim

crysis 4 will definitly use all of 3gb, so there is no doubt it will be put to good use
