Wanting New Audio Setup

So I have this currently:

Superlux HD681EVO (white)

Audio Technica ATH-2500USB

The mic quality is great, when paired with a boom stand, but It is very cumbersome to get around, and using my PC with it in the way has gotten so annoying as of late I actually d/ced it and stored it in the corner.

My Superlux's have good sound quality, but the left side just went out today (bad soldering connection) I could repair the soldering, but am thinking more towards the future.

Question:

Could I get anything to solve my predicament (e.g. boom mic *not antlion, i tried those, needed to be boosted so the audio sounded horrid, and too quiet even then) for under 150 dollars?

I was also thinking of maybe just changing the stand, and repairing the headphones. My current stand is a height adjusting, tilting, boom stand. It's good, but space is too tight for me to bend around it all the time.

I have never had luck with dynamic mics, they were always too soft, and had too much noise when boosted.

This isn't more of a *help what do i buy?* but rather a *what is your guys' opinions or suggestions* type of question.

Thanks for reading!

Ah, gotcha.

I'd go with an HD 518 as it's only $80.

Those look good for the price, not happy with the low end freq response, but my main beef with them: they look ugly to me. :/

Anything you know of that is more studio-looking?

This is what I mean by studio-looking:

beyerdynamic-custom-one-pro-headphone-2_

That is prob my favorite headset around, but way to expensive, especially for the dynamic mic it comes with.

AKG has more than a few options I was considering mentioning, but I'm unsure what kind of frequency response you're looking for.

If you want a studio looking headphone, get a studio headphone.

Who says I'm not, we both know why I don't recommend the 7506.

What is the difference in terms of sound between 40 MM and 50 MM drivers? I know the technical difference, just not what the real-sound difference is.

There is none, driver size has minimal influence on quality, a 30mm can out perform a 52mm driver

Instead of going with the Sony, which didn't sound very good (I tried one out at my local electronics store :P) I am going with this:

http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-M40x-Professional-Headphones/dp/B00HVLUR54

Will i regret this choice? They sounded perfect to my untrained ears.

They are alright, I find the SRH440 to be a better option because you can fit 1540 pads on it.

The sonys are more comfortable and personally I didn't think there was too much of a difference between the Sonys and my previous M50.

And the fact the 7506 is cheaper and the best thing since casual sex and buttered toast.

Those are the ones that are nearly the same as the mdr-v6's right? If so there good if you want a flat headphone but they drop off considerably once you get into the bass, so just a heads up on that.

I mean this makes sense they are a monitoring headphone which is why you see so many autio tech's for TV shows and movies using them. I imagine they would be great for monitoring vocals as well since they are so flat.

Yes but I've heard the 7506 is more comfortable than the v6 which is what made me choose those way back when I bought my first headphones.

I added a bit more to my post.

They were one of my first better headphones as well. I still have them as a backup or when a friend needs to borrow them. I'm less likely to give them out now since they're not made anymore. Over winter the 1/4 to 3.5 adapter broke, luckily Sure uses the same threading.

They have the exact same frame and replacement cups. Only the gold tip and the drivers are different and only slightly. According to testing the mdr-v6's cover more range once burned in. One guy postulated that it was because the 7506 was designed to be more durable since they were going to used so much more. There was a revision in the mdr-v6's drivers as well that made them a bit different, possibly worse. I think the ones I have are the unrevised ones from the 90’s as I got them well used.

I really wish there were better ear pads or at lease more durable ones available after market.

Yeah I actually have some 7506 pads laying around. A pair of them ripped from use and I tried supergluing one and my mom fixed the other with thread and needle and they just aren't the same.

I've used all those silly expensive electrostats I don't give a shit about and I still find the 7506 to be better, hence why I never recommend it.

I found them to be identical in every way shape and form.

@DaCoder these are likely out of you price range but see what AiAiAi has to offer. They have great sound and the design of the headphones are just genius. I have: TMA-1 DJ TMA-1 Studio Young Guru Edition TMA-1 X The TMA-1 Studio Young Guru Edition a the most comfortable headphones I've eve used and are the one pair where I actually forget what I'm wearing. It like wearing a microfiber covered memory foam pillow on your head. Also just cause they look half decent don't assume they sound bad because they sound great. They are probably better sounding ones for the price but to me a product is the whole package. If they sound amazing but are uncomfortable as hell they might as well sound like a cell phone speaker. Another higher end pair I have to compare to are the beyerdynamic mmx-300 customs’s which are technically a headset, which is what I use the for, but I do get some music on with them every now and then too.
