Corsair H100i + FX 8350 Poor Temps

Hiya Guys,

Just looking for tips to diagnose this extraordinary load temps with a 1.368v (stock) 4.5ghz OC. Running OOCT and Prime 95 it quicly rises to above 70 degrees Celsius in 3 mins where I stop it to avoid damage to the CPU (probably would rise even higher).

Surely with a H100i with 2 X SP120 high performance ed at max rpm in push should get much lower temps its not exactly "extreme CPU cooling" as advertised .I know the fx 8350 is designed to be used in a igloo as it is stupid hot  but I'm I pretty sure a hyper 212 could manage that easily.

 

Apart from the usual noobish tips of resitting the cpu block and reapplying thermal paste is there another tips you could offer or comforting anecdotal evidence  that h100i isn't even that good in the first place and is over-hyped. If I can't sort it Ill probably ditch it on eBay and get a custom loop which would guarantee me performance but that is a last measure really I want the h100i to work as it should really. Thanks for the tips and time given.

Case: NZXT H440 with 6 Fans running at 100%

Ambient room temp. around 20 degrees celsius

Reseat the block, reapply high quality thermal paste and check whether your pump and radiator fan are working.

What motherboard are you using? I've had a similar issue with the Asus Z77 Sabertooth, where the block (although tightened to the point where the screws might strip if i tried any harder) didn't actually make very good contact with the CPU's heat spreader.  The issue i found was that the standoff screws that go into backplate were a few millimeters off on this particular motherboard, which obviously meant the block made little contact at all.  The fix i had was to drop in some rubber washers I had lying around from my RC car and installed about 2 per corner.  This I found was enough for tor the block to be mounted with adequate pressure and as a result produced much better temperatures when testing.

make sure the pump is plugged into a 12v 3 pin and isnt being treated like a fan, attach the fans through pwm headers or whatever to adjust fan speed but your pump should have a solid 12v 9or 7v or whatever).

I don't break 70*C with an old antec h620...(corsair h60 basicly)

Technically speaking, and also from Corsair's recommendation, the 3 pin coming off of the block should ideally be plugged into CPU fan or OPT fan.

My h100i woudnt make physical contact with the cpu heat spreader so i fashioned some plastic spacers to ensure the bracket was flush against the spreader and temps reduced extremely well, this is lga 1155
