Msi 970A-G46 With FX-8350 Problems

So i built my PC about a year ago now and i was going to overclock it but when i found out that some people had problems with the motherboard paired up with an 8 core CPU i decided not to so i done some researching and most people say that i should get a new motherboard but i don't have much money so do i risk overclocking or do i not even attempt to OC at all this is an email form MSI talking about the problem (http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/330572-30-970a-warning) also i may point out that MSI clearly say that the motherboard supports 8 core CPUs on the compatibility list on their site i also tried calling the MSI support line but apparently the number is not in use what should i do save up for a new board?

Its more than likely to do with the VRM temps. Overclocking more on an already hot motherboard wont end well, the VRM's will thermal throttle and that's not good.

IMO if its not broke dont fix it, Do you really want to shell out for a new board just to OC? are you having any performance issues right now?

I have the exact same motherboard.

I have a fx-4100 in it (quad core), and it works fine. I tried overclocking it, and fried my VRM. I ended up getting the board again because i didnt want to go through Microsoft customer service explaining why im using the same copy of windows on two machines.

If you need to overclock, do it on a better board. This is an amazing board for general use, but not much else

tbh i am not to sure if i am having any performance issues there is one thing this shows i have 4 cores (http://gyazo.com/28877532f41636815d00eb4177feb1b3) not sure why i know this is another problem people have had in the past but control center shows 8 cores (http://gyazo.com/a21646dd44b9542d15ab6b39d1c5c053 <you might want to copy and paste that link) you got any ideas?

The FX8350 only has 4 "full" cores (in theory).

Let me explain; it has 4 modules which each contain two kind of half cores (for a total of 8 sort of kind of cores). However they share resources such as the Floating Point Unit and the L2 cache which means each 'core' is roughly 80% efficient to do in multithreaded scenarios. It's more efficient for a program to use threads 1, 3, 5 and 7 as that way no resource sharing is going on in tasks that only use 4 cores. Which is why windows calls it a 4c 8t CPU and not 8c 8t. This was added as a hotfix to windows 7 and is present in sp1 and w8/8.1.

but to answer the OP don't overclock on an 4+1 unheatsinked MSI board with an FX8350. You're asking for trouble,

That's a very weak board for that CPU, might have VRM overheating/throttling issues if you overclock, it should cope if not overclocking.
