Ordered my 3DS, which game should I get FIRST?!?

Go to solution Solved by sqwidee,

Finally got my unit. Started with SM3D Land, Etrian Odyssey IV, and Shin Megami Tensei 4

TY for suggestions, bros

So I put in my order for a 3DS XL yesterday. I've got a list of games already, but I want to know what some favorites are before I buy anything!

JRPGs and Platformers get priority in my book.

What should I buy?

Pokemon X/Y and Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies.

If you like Final Fantasy-esque games, Bravely Default is a good choice as well.

Seems like people like Bravely Default, and I might get it. A friend of mine has been telling me that it's far too easy, though.

I can't vouch for it as I don't like that style of game, but I hear it's damn good.

I do enjoy some Mario from time to time. 3D Land or New SMB2?

The Ocarina of Time Remake. LOVE that game and always will.  Fire Emblem is also pretty good if you are into tactical stuff.  Or just mario if you need a game to play while spectating or taking a dump.

It is sooo good.  My favourite 3DS game would have to be MGS3D though.

Is KH3D a substantial advancement in game design over Birth by Sleep?

BBS was my favorite and Re:Coded disappointed me immensely with story and gameplay.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I'll definitely look at the Zelda games soon, but it's too much right now.

I'll probably grab SMT4 for cheap, also been hyped for it after replaying Nocturne... :D

Time to sit on my porch and stare at passing cars until the UPS guy shows up with the system O_O

Late, but consider Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, Super Mario 3D Land, Shinobi, Paper Mario: Sticker Star, Kid Icarus: Uprising, the Professor Layton games and Phoenix Wright games if you're into logic and detective work; Fire Emblem: Awakening, the upcoming Super Smash Bros. for 3DS - different stages on 3DS and Wii U -, Star Fox 64 3D, Kirby: Triple Deluxe, SMT: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, Pokémon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire when it's released, and Bravely Second if you end up liking Bravely Default.

For DS since the 3DS is backwards compatible: the other Pokémon games if you never played them - it's Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, SoulSilver/HeartGold, Black/White, and Black 2/White 2 -, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks; Star Fox Command, the Final Fantasy remakes - I don't remember which ones, but I think it's the first 4 - and Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light which I believe was the precursor to Bravely Default; Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time and Bowser's Inside Story; Super Princess Peach - finally, Peach gets to show she can kick ass -, Metroid Prime Hunters, The World Ends with You, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon - basically a remake of the first Fire Emblem and I think it still has the same "issues" as the original game; still good since it stays true to Fire Emblem's "every move counts and the RPG Goddess hates you" deal -, and a bunch of other games I can't remember.

There's also the Virtual Console games on the 3DS. So, you can buy games like Metroid Fusion and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons.

Fire Emblem Awakening, Kid Icarus Uprising, someone earlier mentioned Phoenix Wright but I'd recommend playing the other games in the series first if you planned on getting that, Monster Hunter is great to play with friends, and a Link Between Worlds is amazing.

Fire Emblem : Awakening

It's so much to be said about this game, it's just so great, but i don't know it enough to write a wall of text.

First off it has to have the best 3D of all the games.

Really good strategy-i enjoyed every bit of the whole game, it's just so enjoyable.

Just don't get me started on the quotes and humor, oh boy.

This is easily a 9/10 game.

I'm biased since I'm a Pokemon.

Also, Bravely Default is a great game, but t gets extremely repetitive. You really can't understand what I'm talking about until you play it through. I couldn't play it for months because of the repetitiveness at the end. It's still worth getting in my opinion.

Top five retail games IMO:

- Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (best game on the system)

- Pokemon X/Y (all hail the Helix fosil)

- Super Mario 3D Land

- Kid Icarus Uprising (people whine about the controls, I didn't mind them)

- Animal Crossing: New Leaf (purely because of how many hours I've put into it. Also house streetpasses)

Digital:

- Steam World Dig

- Mighty Switch Force

- Shovel Knight
