Would i have to over clock a i5 4670k if I get it and would I have to buy a aftermarket cooler

I'm really confused because it is an unlocked cpu and is this a great choice for a gamin pc or should I wait for a new generation...

yea....anyway the i5 4690K cpu is better than the 4670K since the temps are a bit better this time.

Do I really need to overclock it because it's an unlocked cpu that's the confusing part

You are under absolutely no obligation to overclock any CPU, that said if you are not going to overclock you should buy the no K version so you can save a little bit of money.

Unlocked just means it is overclockable.

Also, while again you have no obligation to, you should buy an aftermarket cooler, most, if not all will be quieter and better performing than the stock Intel cooler.

So is there an alternative I5 that might be great for gaming

As far as I know 4690 and 4690K are same CPU. One can be overclocked and other one cannot. So in that sense 4690K is best as you can, if you like, improve its performance by overclocking it.

You seem to be very novice with computers i would suggest you save some money and just buy an haswell refresh CPU that is a locked chip (non K) along with an H97 motherboard, all of those can run any games on max settings...

here i put 3 kits for you with 3 different price, the performance gets a little better at every step-up, so pick the one that fits your budget, as i mentionned they all perform great okay and you do not need an after market CPU cooler:

See the CPU is clocked a little faster as you go up in price, you can pick wichever board you might want with any of these cpu's.

Pair that with 8GB of DDR3 RAM (1600mhz is good enough) and put the rest of the money in the best AMD GPU that you can afford (R9 280, R9 280X or R9 290) and you'll have a killer gaming PC.
