{poll} What do you think is the worst PSU brand?

What is the worst Power supply brand?

The Best brand?

Feel free to share your experiences in the comments to warn others of the worst or best things you've touched inside you PC.

I have had purely great results with Seasonic PSUs and my Intel Q6600 is still going strongly powered and pulling a 2.99Ghz OC :D and running Euro truck simulator at 26 fps on just above lowest with a gtx 660 and 8 GB ddr2 ram...  Someday I shall upgrade to a Xeon E3-1230 v3 :)

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 IS BETTER Than the Core i5 4690K and a Significantly better value for the non-overclockers or value shoppers.

Well I've got an Apevia (sadly), and I can't say I've ever had any problems with it, not that I would ever buy one again though.

seeing as Corsair has ALL the sizes you could want, both modular and non, and selling kits of sleeved cables, i dont see a need for any other brand :P

I think Seasonic is the best, Just because they are an OEM and I know when I buy a Seasonic PSU its made by them. Seasonic also makes fantastic PSUs!

Why are Corsair and Seasonic even on the list to be the worst? You kidding me?

I wanted to give all of them a fair chance ot either be trolled or if somebody hates them etc.  I am honestly expecting Diablotek to win the losing part.

Antec is a well known PSU company that has had questionable PSUs in the past. Their older CWT-built models were plagued with failure of their Fuhjyyu capacitors. Since changing their main OEM for the mainstream units to Seasonic and Delta Electronics, Antec PSUs have improved substantially. They now use Delta Electronics for their high end PSU's and are very high quality.

Cooler Master
Extreme Power 380W/430W PMSR/PMSP – HiPro
Extreme Power 380W/430W PCAR/PCAP – Acbel

Silent Pro 500W-700W – Enhance
Silent Pro M1000 – FSP
Silent Pro Gold – Enhance

Most of the PSU's Coolermaster brand are midrange budget/value models, whilst they will get the job done there are usually better options at the same price levels. The newer Enhance models, especially the Silent Pros are quite good.

Cougar
Cougar manufactures their own PSUs.

They are relatively recent – from around 2007. Their PSUs are generally considered slightly above average quality, but individually range from average to above average.

Fortron Source (FSP)
FSP manufacture their own PSUs.

Been around for a long time, their older PSUs are average to slightly above average units, but their new ones are much better. For the price, their lower budget PSUs (such as the Raider) represent better value than their higher budget ones (Aurum).

Z series 550W – FSP
Z series 650W – FSP
Z series Z850M – Sirtec
Z series Z1000M – Sirtec

OCZ used FSP as its OEM manufacturer for a long time. Their PSUs were of questionable quality, being based on the Epsilon model. However, they have taken a big step forward since acquiring PC Power & Cooling in 2007. The Impervio units and some Sirtec models are excellent.

PC Power & Cooling (owned by OCZ)
Silencer – Seasonic
Silencer MK II – Sirtec
Turbo Cool – Wintact

The 1kW Turbo Cool is considered one of the highest quality PSUs available; despite being one of the loudest, it is a high-quality server-grade PSU. The Silencer series is good, although their are better Seasonic built units available, that are also quieter and better value. PCP&C units are not currently sold in Australia.

Seasonic
Seasonic manufacture their own PSUs.

Long time PSU manufacturer, all of their products are very good, one of the few OEM's to still make quality low-mid power units. Seasonic units are generally quiet, high quality and good value.

Seventeam
Seventeam manufacture their own PSUs. However, the quality of the PSUs are not much better from Generics.

Thermaltake PSUs have a long-standing reputation of being average at best. They switched their OEM to Channel Well (CWT) for the Tough Power and later PurePower RX series, which have some good units. You need to know what you are buying when you get a Thermaltake, especially that they are a little overpriced.

Vantec
ION 350W/460W – Topower

EVGA, Rosewill, Corsair, Seasonic, and Antec don't belong on the first list imo, have no clue how anyone could ever vote for any of them. xD

I personally chose EVGA for my PSU, and love it so far. :P

Asking people on this forum this question is just silly.

Firstly, there's the distinction between brand and manufacturer/OEM.

ThermalTake is not the worst power supply brand. Diablotek is not the worst. None of those are the worst. And that list isn't anywhere near complete. I particularly dislike Hyena/Deer, but they aren't even the worst.

This should give you a better idea of what the worst power supply ever looks like.

"The solder side of the unit turned out to be a lesson in cost cutting. Need insulation? Let's use hot glue. Soldering? Let's keep the heat on for the bare minimum of time so joints can go cold in a few years. Too much current on a PCB trace? Stick a piece of wire in there."

I can't find it now, but I've seen power supplies with less than half this number of components. Truly empty PCBs.

I know there are a lot of particularly bad brands of PSUs out there (Leadman/Powmax, Sun Pro, Low end L&C/Deer, etc) but which one do you think is the worst? Personally, I'd have to say CWT-made Antecs as I've seen more of them kill components than any other brand.

4 votes for "Antec (before a re-cap)" for worst power supply brand.

Oh and Phaedrus linked this. http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story2&reid=123

...we get to see new records for suck being established with 12V ripple hitting 3V. Seriously! Three volts! That's twenty five times higher than the ATX spec!!! And look, 5V isn't much better at 1.3V by test four. Do you have any idea what that would do to attached hardware? Bye-bye hard drive. Bye-bye CPU. Bye-bye, motherboard. Nice knowing you.

4 votes for "Antec (before a re-cap)" for worst power supply brand.

Small sample size of people voting on things and if you see the power supplies they were talking about they were from many, many moons ago.  Heck the poll was done in 2010 and some people commenting were talking about PSUs that were used for much older pcs. Also it was mentioned by people in the comments section that Antec had learned their lesson.

Now as for this poll here on LTT I was asked to say what I thought was the worst psu brand and I assume the person asking here on LTT would be talking about relevant stuff today and not ancient history.  Again I didn't pick a worst brand but nobody in their right mind would choose Antec right now.
