[WCCF] CPU-Z shows AMD Carrizo APU A10-8890K

A CPU-Z image which appears to detail AMD’s next-generation APU, the A10-8890K, has apparently been leaked. WCCFTech has found the image via Guru3D, but at this point it should be taken as a rumour, since nothing has been officially announced.

The CPU-Z image appears to show that AMD is still keeping the current APU name, having it part of the A10 series, possibly the A-10 Elite. The K suffix at the end shows that the APU in question has an unlocked multiplier and the ‘Elite Hexa-Core’ present in the AMD logo indicates that the APU comes with 6 cores. Also, the 95W TDP and 4.4 Ghz core clock makes it an impressive piece.

 

The latest AMD APU appears to be based on the FM3 socket, which has been stated to come in 2016, which leads to two possibilities here. The first is that the report from AMD was inconclusive and the APU might come early than reported, or the leaked CPU-Z image does not display an actual Carrizo APU.

The CPU is said to boast Excavator cores, the latest revision of the Bulldozer architecture. This might be the case in the leaked image, having it show a high core clock and number of cores. However, the L2 cache appears to show 3 x 1024 KB, which is said to be very low for a 6-core CPU. AMD might have something up its sleeve with some stacked DRAM lifting the L2 Cache, but nothing is sure at the moment.

 

Personal thoughts: I don't really care or hate amd for putting out APUs instead of pure cpus. I understand that Intel does the same thing. But AMD has to put out stuff that can beat some of Intel's cpu b/c it looks like Intel is starting to try and push hard into the entry level cpu sector where AMD is turf is right now. I do realize also that amd is suffering financially, so putting out things that will appeal to non-enthusiast consumers does seem to be a good strategy in making money. However I wish that amd could put out a cpu that gives Intel a run for their money.

 

On another note, this is the first 6 core apu that amd is putting out there, so thats interesting.

 

Due to the fact that this is a WCCF article, I would advise that you guys take this rumor with a massive amount of salt.

Guru3D was the first to bite, and they actually plagiarized as well. WCCF then essentially copied it and added some of their stuff to it on their main website and a sister rumour mill. Soon other places put it up also. The only news here is that the tech journalist world is full of people who would rather post first for views and exclusivity than take the time to fact check.

you never know. It would make sense for it to be an actual 6 core since kaveri 7850k was a quad core (but marketed as 12 core (4 cores plus 8 graphics core)

They need to improve on the graphics side. DDR3 is still the bottleneck, really the only thing they can do is add a bucketload of L4 cache to alleviate that.

Nice, however I've read earlier someone saying about WCCF, that one should take all their info with a continent sized grain of salt, I'd say you should take this with a size of ( moon mass, weight ) grain of salt. Anyway APU's sure are great, but that 2016 release date is meh...  especially for a 6 core apu....

whole buldozer series were like that. fake cores!  they just couldn't make technology like intel HT and made modules with 2 real cores that work like one
