Do i need a separate fan controller?

hmminteresting

I have a Corsair 760t case. it comes with a toggle fan controller. In total i have 5 fans excluding the CPU cooler. would you recommend I use a 3rd party controller, alternatively is there any good software alternatives out there? Or is the in-built one good enough

for only 5 fans the mobo controls are good enough, so with the case controller you have more than enough and good enough :)

Just use the motherboard headers. Unless you have a really crappy motherboard then the bios will control the fans.

My System Specs: (Short list) i7 4770k, GTX 780, many SSD's, a 2 TB HDD(deceased :( ), Corsair 650D. Full list: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/kchriz6097/saved/8dh7YJ

Upgrade Plan: Acquire some Black Noctuas then add 16 or 32GB of 2133MHz memory

I would put the ones you think you are going to control alot like the exahust fans so that when the system is idle you can keep positive airflow by turning the fans down then when you are gaming turn them up so that you can get max airflow. Then put the rest on Motherboard headers.

Really depends on what kind of fans you have and how you want to control them. For static speed simple software solution of fan control is best. For curves you need to use mobos software.
