Looking for a good solution to cool a BitFenix Prodigy

Silmano

I have finished mounting my new gaming HTPC in a BitFenix Prodigy case and I was wondering some good air cooling solutions. Since I have the 5.25" drive bay occupied with the BluRay unit, I can only use one of the two 120mm top fans, so I was thinking about using the following:

  • A BitFenix 230mm fan on the front, something like the BitFenix Spectre Pro.
  • The Noctua NF-A14 PWM as 140mm rear fan.
  • The Noctua NF-S12A PWM as 120mm top-rear fan.

The Asus Z97I-Plus I'm using has two spare PWM fan connectors, so I could use them to power the two Noctuas.

What do you think of the setup, should be enough or do I need to change anything? Right now I'm with the two stock coolers that came with the case, one front and one back (those arent PWM)

The regular prodigy (not the midnight one) has sort of a restrictive front panel intake. A big as$ fan on the front does help with it. I'm not a fan of the Btifenix large Spectre pro fans, A Cooler Master Megaflow 200mm fan does the job better, a Phanteks 200mm fan would do it even better if you have the budget.

Get a 140mm rear exhaust and you are good to go, if you don't want to spend a ton on case fans, but don't want a noisy HTPC, the Be Quiet! Pure Wings 2 and Rosewill Hyperborea do a really nice job.

For the 4670k, get a nice tower air cooler, the NH-D14 is cheaper these days and can get you a beastly OC, or you can always get a 212 Evo and call it a day.

I will take a look at the Cooler Master and Phanteks.

As for the CPU, I already have the Noctua NH-U12S. Since my RAM isn't low profile, I don't know if I can use a much bigger cooler.

Getting again back on topic, what about using 2x120mm coolers with high static pressure instead of a big 200-230mm one?

Anyone for the question of using 2x120mm coolers instead of a big one (200-230mm)?
