Looking for a gaming keyboard

Go to solution Solved by Akolyte,

Well, if you already have Razer synapse installed it makes sense to get the Razer Blackwidow.

Cherry MX browns are good as a first try, the orange ones in the blackwidow tournemant I think are a copy of cherry mx browns.  Or you can get the Razer's green switch which is a copy of cherry mx blues which feel similar to browns but have a loud click noise whenever you press a key.

However, generally Razer gets allot of putdowns for being overpriced.  I own both a Blackwidow and a Logitech G710+ quite frankly the blackwidow feels more high quality and flexes less.  But at the same time Corsair has really good keyboards that are very popular.

So if it was me personally, I would go for the Corsair K70 in cherry mx browns because cherry mx browns feel nice and you know when you've hit them but they are easier to press than blues.  So browns are like cherry mx reds and blues mixed together.  Which I recommend for new mechanical keyboard users IF you can actually go and try out the keyboard first.

Ideally you want to go and try the keyboards first and see which one you like.  The Corsair K70 gets my vote.

Please note too that Razer synapse has a really annoying thing.  Where it syncs your macros, and the keys are in a way you can accidentally make a macro during your game and since it syncs it makes life a really difficulty and ugghh.

Razer is overpriced, and of course you could probably find a keyboard just as good as the blackwidow, just to note.  but that doesn't stop it from being a solid choice.

Hi,

I wanna buy a gaming keyboard to replace my 8$ Microsoft keyboard. I found the Razer Blackwidow and the Corsair K70 quite interesting. They're around the same price on Newegg.ca . I don't know anything about keyboard switches, I never tried any. I already have a Razer mice that I like quite a bit, and of course I have Razer Synapse installed on my computer. Does Corsair have a software like Razer to manage devices? Do any of you try one of these keyboards and could recommend me?

the blackwidow is supposed to be quite good, but go and try the different switches first, blues and reds for you i would think, and the new k70 RGB should be coming out in a month or 2, i would wait for that :) i am

If you really aren't sure about which switch to choose try asking around friends that have a certain color switch and ask for a quick test.

You could also buy a switch test kit but it goes: Red = lightest, Black = slightly heavier red, Brown = Average with a click, Blue = Relatively heavy with a click

I myself use a CM Storm Quickfire Ultimate with browns and I am very much happy with it. It looks good, feels good and has a very good build quality.

Yeah, no... the Blackwidow uses cheap, chinese key switches and poor quality material

I suggest the Corsair K70 or Ducky Shine 3, and if you can't get a switch test kit get them in Browns, because it seems to be the best all-round switch

Heard some pretty bad things about the blackwiddow it has some quality issues. I personally wouldn't go with razer, look into something as the cm-storm line they are solid as a rock and you can get them in all sorts of cherry switches.

EDIT: Also brands as Corsair and Ducky are amazing.

The majority of you recommends the Corsair K70 over the Blackwidow. I will try to find a place where I can test all the switches. I know about the K70 RGB but I don't know if I want to pay 200$ just to have more shiny colors on my keyboard. I personally just want a keyboard that feels good.

Thanks for the useful recommendations!
