Why does 30fps look better on a console then a PC?

Gauzl

After playing Destiny on Xbox one I find I'm not bothered at all by the 30fps, however it's a completely different story on PC, I have 2 GTX 780's so can play most games at 120fps on a 120hz monitor yet when I try playing them at 30fps by capping it just to see what it's like, it looks horrible.

A lot of TVs will actually process what you see and "fill in" the missing frames. That's why you see TVs with like 240Hz panels, the TV is actually just taking a 60Hz signal and "guessing" the frames in between.

Whether or not your TV does this is a different thing, but generally, monitors are simplified TVs without all the post-processing mumbo jumbo.

TVs and Monitors are very different in terms of tech. TVs are meant to have things played back at 24-30fps, they are designed for it. Plus consoles are designed to try to give you a good experience. I can't even watch someone play a game on a console, too jittery and low quality. I don't see how people play at 30fps at 720p. It's so unplayable.

It's not unplayable when the alternative is 720p at 2 FPS.

Really depends on use case/the end user.

I use both my PS4 and PC on the same monitor and it doesn't bother me, not sure where all these tv theories are coming from...

Yeah it's funny, I said nothing about TV's and everyone is talking about them, I play both PC and console on the same monitor.

For people like me it's unplayable. I been running on a 1440P monitor with 2 780's for a while. When I see my sister playing ps3, it's hard for me to think that's an enjoyable experience.

You are using a monitor.. Anyway most people don't give enough shits to care about their frame rate or resolution.

on console the graphics and setting, and the game is toned down to work for the hardware. On most PC games the settings are all there to mess with, and the game is not as limited so it will take more of a hit on your system. PC games are more demanding than console games.

To me it really depends on the game. I can play Tomb Raider, the Alan Wake series, and GTA IV fine at 30 FPS, so I have mostly maxed settings, yet if I tried to play BF3, CoD, WoW, or any other game I play at least semi-competitively, I ALWAYS turn down my settings to achieve a consistent 50+ FPS. Otherwise, the experience is just unplayable for me. I used to be different though, I didn't even mind if I was running at ~20 FPS a long time ago, then again the rig I had at the time could barely achieve 20 FPS half the time. :P

This might be going off topic but kinda relative in the frame rate department. I've watched a 60fps video being played back next to a 30fps version of the same video and you really notice the smoothness of motion with the 60fps video as oppose to the 30fps version. So if that's any comparison I can certainly see why some gamers prefer to play at 50 - 60fps+ because the motion is silky smooth.

FYI: Both videos were played back on my 1080p monitor and they were recorded in 1080p. :)

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.

simple. 2 reason:

1- console games have the game run 30fps SOLID. Fluctuating fps is the worst. If you have a run run at 500fps, but drops at random at 100fps, you'll see it, clear and simple. If your interested, I can find you an article on that.

2- Some TVs with features like '120Hz!', or '240Hz!' or '600 Hz!!! Buy me!', takes the 30fps content, takes the current frame, waits for the next one, once it has it, it generates missing frames in between,to reach 120fps, or 200 fps or 600fps, all by displaying 60 or 120. Notice that 240Hz, and 600Hz are missing, that is because the display doesn't go that far, but emulates it, but mixing the 2 frames.

That is why TV and movies looks strange on them. It fakes that. That also why 120Hz TV looks also strange, but not your (if you have one) 120Hz computer monitor. The downside of this, beside making everything look strange, is that it has huge input lag, over 100fps in come TVs. Some TVs allows you to disable this feature thankfully.

Huh? No. Not only it makes no sense, but that is very not true.

PS4, XBox One do have titles in 60fps, and the WiiU has many titles including AAA large ones, in 60fps.

At 300$, you can't have a PC that can play games as good as a console, and will lack features. Not to mention that the console comes with a 60$ game.

If you are using a game controller/pad, than 30 fps isn't so bad.

With mouse and keyboard it is brutal and unplayable at 30 fps, unless you turned your DPI on your mouse up to aerobic exercise levels.

Whenever SteamOS is finished, you can.
