How to get an R9 290 Tri-X into a 250D

mapegl

So I went ahead and created this video "guide" showing how to get the R9 290 Tri-X into a Corsair 250D. My video setup was super ghetto and I had to film this by myself.

I hope this helps a bit, especially my friend here, Rayballs

What are the temps like though? (CPU included, what's the cooler?)

The case is tiny, there is no space for airflow to those Tri-X fans that I can see.

Good luck on trying to get it out (that's what she said)

I actually pulled it out for RayBalls just to show him how to get it back in......so yeah. It's not that difficult!

What are we talking about here? Do you mean with Prime and Furmark? That's not the best idea in this case, gotta admit that.

Playing a game? Much better.

I will upload some pics of temp testing for you guys later.

So I tested some different load scenarios.

1) Furmark (10minutes since I have done this before and it won't go up any further):

GPU temps

2) Prime 95 only shortly, becuase temps actually went up for a little bit, because my case was heated up from playing battlefield and then the temps actually dropped to those shown in the pic. When I didn't see them changing much anymore I figured they won't go up again and they probably won't go any lower as well.

CPU temps

3) gaming, playing Battlefield 4 on Ultra for about 30 minutes. I even didn't activate the frame limiter, which keeps it even cooler.

gaming temps BF4

For all these tests, I had an ambient temperature of about 22°C.

You are most welcome.

Well if you do this, post some pics! Are you getting the Tri-X or the Vapor-X cooler?

Dolphinately

I'll go for the tri-X

The vapor-X isn't really useful for the Non-X 290

Tri-X is the Sweetspot

You mean PCIe slots, not lanes.

Why do they say that? I mean if you want more expansion cards, that makes sense. This kinda only makes sense for a second gpu though, and I would not crossfire in a 350D. Bottom-GPU is choked by the PSU.

It really is up to you. My best friend has the 350D and it is very nice, but fairly big. The 250D is much smaller.

If you really want to crossfire, go ATX, because you will need enough space for decent airflow.

meh,

He said Its ok if The second GPU is slightly choked

And gave me the engineer's quote

"Trust me I'm an Engineer"

Can't argue with that :(

Plus he promised to fund it if i go with the 350D

I'll Probably end up watercooling the

second upgrade :(

It's kind of a half joke and half serious thing

I now have the urge to buy three 290s and a 250D along with some risers and just shove the 290s in there just to see if I can get them in lol XP.
