What are safe CPU and GPU Temps?

Go to solution Solved by harrynowl,

AMD rate their chips at 62c, but I've personally ran them up to 70c or so (75c socket) for extended periods of time and they don't show any signs of degrading etc.

And around 80c on that GPU, but I'd consider 70c more comfortable.

CPU: AMD FX-8350

GPU: Gigabyte R9-280X Overclocked Edition

Under synthetic load expect 90c  on both but you never get there normally. these temps are fine for short periods of time

80C on both

AMD CPUs are supposed to stay under 62C

It's different for different manufacturers. Some graphics cards are designed to run at 95C. Most Tj.Max maximum temperatures for processors are around 100C. Technically anything from 80C and below is safe. Would you like to provide a specific product or products that you would like to know the "safe" temperature boundaries for?

Generally 20C below TJ Max is a safe limit, but only under heavy load.

Edit* also make sure that you are reading core temps on the cpu. motherboard software usually doesn't show core temps.
