My Brother's build + help

Well, my brother are planning to build a new PC because his old one is performing very slow. So, for his birthday, I would like to get him a PC for his productivity need and some gaming. He is thinking about the Mac Pro with D300s(the basic model). However, I think you can build a better PC with the price. So I come up with this build. He said he's going to buy it at the end of the month. I don't have much time.

With the productivity, will it be video rendering + editing?

Well, it seems you really care about him and you're willing to spend a LOT of money, but  I dont think two r9 290s will be needed for it, if you want to save money. And many applications benefit from cuda cores better, I'll post a build with better budget, and pretty much the same performance. one example is, the 1230V3 is basically as good as the 1271 v3 other than core clock, so it wont be extremely better, while being $100 more than the 1230v3

I would go for the i7 4790k over the Xeon.

Dude, the Xeon 1230v3 is the same as a 4770k, but not overclockable....

also, it is 100$ cheaper

I would rather have an overclockable cpu than a locked one.

You would need to find out whether the software uses CUDA or OpenCL. If it is just cuda then swap the gpu for a 780/ti.

I like unlocked CPU's, HENCE, why I own a 4690k+z97 mobo...

BUT, he started his build with a xeon locked, so I decided to follow what he started with. .-.

I guess he doesn't need our help then ?   Anyway lets not derail the thread with mindless arguments. It is hardly fair on the op.

A few tweaks to your generally good build.

The NH-D15 overhangs the first memory slot in its nominal configuration. I would suggest an h100i for better cooling and more memory module compatibility.

Strictly speaking there is no need for the Arctic Silver thermal compound.

Instead of 4x4GB = 16GB of memory I would suggest 4x8GB = 32GB. Regardless of speed a 32GB system will tend to outperform one with 16GB.

A larger ssd.

A much better psu with a 10 year warranty.

With the no budget and uncertain specified uses I don't know what to recommend. But if you purely just want looks and power here's something to give you an idea.

You gotta do you girl. I always say you gotta do you. And if he's doing him, then who's doing you? Because right now, it seems like no one's doing you.
