Using plasti-dip on motherboard

(I found some threads involving plasti-dip and motherboards but couldn't really find a clear answer)

Assuming I cover up the large capacitors/mosfets, connection points (24 pin, 8 pin, USB ports, etc), the DRAM and PCI slots, and the heatsinks, will my motherboard be safe with plasti-dip on it? I really, REALLY hate the brown PCB and want to keep a simplistic dark design. If so, any tips?

Motherboard is a P8Z77 V LK

Also wondering if this would work as well on a graphics card PCB, since mine does not have any backplates available for it.

the only issue i could see would be heat. as long as plastic dip is nonconductive you should be fine

That's what I'm worried about, overheating. And yeah electrical damage shouldn't be a problem seeing as it's literally liquid electrical tape.

I wouldn't try it. there are so many heat sensitive parts like MOSFETs and capacitors etc that need air to passively cool them, and plasti dip would restrict that, and if you removed plasti dip from every pert that is heat sensitive, only your PCB would really be covered.

TBH, you don't need to cover all that. As long as you cover the PCI-e, RAM, & CPU slots/socket, the rest can be uncovered (aside from plugs, pins, and buttons/CMOS battery of course).

Plasti-Dip is spray-on electrical tape. That's about as non-conductive as it can get.

Yep. I still would leave it off those components, but it's not a necessity imo.

only your PCB would really be covered.

That's the point. Cover the PCB. The rest doesn't matter.

Highlighted in red what I think I should cover up (and you can see the ugly brown PCB)

I think I might just manually peel the plasti dip off the capacitors instead of covering them up.

... ? The capacitors aren't highlighted. Unless this picture takes into account your next comment.

Obviously all connectors should be covered, but the I/O area and SATA Ports have no reason to be covered from what I can tell. The rest is good though.

Have you looked at this motherboard in your case yet? Do you have obscenely bright LED lights in it?

The reason I ask is because if it's not lit up with white light, it won't look brown. I own the ASRock Extreme4 Z77 motherboard, which has a brown PCB, and it looks black in my case with green LEDs.

White is about the only way someone would see it as brown in your case and the lights would have to be bright. Just saying.

you can plastidip the capacitors,

I can cover the larger solo capacitors with tape and peel off the plasti dip from the smaller clustered ones

you can plastidip the capacitors,

One part of me thinks it will be fine and the other part is scared something will go wrong :P At least if something does go wrong I can peel off the stuff and try to RMA the board

Uhh for the time taken it might just be worth buying a new Z77 board as they go pretty cheap on clearance now.

Just bought an H440 and an H100i so unfortunately I don't have the money to do that. And I don't think it's worth dropping that much money on a new board simply because of a brown PCB. My current board works well for me, I just think it's ugly

Well I wish you good luck as I've not seen this done before :P

Please post the results!
