Will the CM Hyper 212 EVO fit in a Corsair SPEC-02?

First time poster and newbie PC builder.

So I'm planning a build using an AMD FX-8320, and I already know I'll need better than stock cooling (listened to the jet-engine stock HSF - out of the question).  I want to be able to do a fairly modest overclock (4.0 to 4.2 GHz total - same as the FX-8350), and the average temp here is typically between 17 and 21 degrees C.

My plan was to use the Hyper 212 EVO, but I'm not sure it will fit in my planned case (the Corsair SPEC-02).  Ideally, I'd like to keep the CPU at about 60-65 degrees max while rendering/prime95, to ensure maximum lifetime.

My question is, will the EVO fit?  And also, would water cooling be a better choice?

P.S.  This is my build, if anyone has any suggestions (preferably that don't raise the price - I'm on a budget  :D)

It should, the hyper 212 evo is spec'd at 6.3 inches (159mm) and the case width is 8.66 in (220mm). Water cooling might give you better temps, you should look at temp ratings for the hyper 212 and comparably priced all-in-ones to determine what you want/need.

I love the 750ti choice, I have one as well and its a little beast of a card. :D

I've seen a variety of temps on the forums and various sites.  Some are quite good (around 35o at idle to somewhere around 50o under load, with no/very minor overclocking), but others have been much too high for my uses (~45o/68o, albeit at higher ambient temps).   I'm hesitant to spend an additional $20, add another thing to break, and add noise to my rig if I can avoid it, so I'd like to stick to air cooling, especially given the relatively minor overclocking I want to do (the 8320 is the same chip as the 8350, just underclocked by 0.5 Ghz).

For your personal case?  Or SPEC-02?

for the spec02 =) unfortunately. but the evo is a real good cheap shit, i mean you can oc your i5 or i7 to a reasonable ghz like 4, 4.2 mb and that thing is not even breaking a sweat.

This guy uses a Hyper 212x in his SPEC-02 and thats only 1mm shorter: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2141253/corsair-carbide-series-spec-airflow.html

I honestly believe you would be perfectly fine. Theres no reason a mid sized tower like that wouldnt fit a decent air cooler. Hell, my node 804 fits a Dark Rock Pro 3 and that shouldn't fit by 3mm.

PCPartPicker also lists it as a compatible heat sink: http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/cpu-cooler/?compatible_with=corsair-case-cc9011051ww

I dont know what other information you would need to be sure it fits :o

Thank you all for the replies.

I did notice that PCPartPicker lists it as compatible, but I wanted a second opinion.

Just took another look at the specs page on Corsair's website and it claims the max CPU cooler height is 157 mm, which is 2 mm too short for the 212 EVO.

I'm on the fence about this, since I really don't want to spend $30 only to find out it doesn't work...

You could take a piece of cardboard and cut it to the height of the cooler, then put it in the case between the mobo and side and see if that'll fit

That's a good idea...  Why didn't I think of that!  I still don't have all of the parts, but when I get them, I think that's what I'll do.

Thank you everyone for your input.

Actually found a closed loop water-cooling unit (CM Seidon 120V) for the same price.  Works like a charm.  Sorry.  :(
