New build questions

ivryk

Good night/morning/afternoon ( depending where you guys live )

First off thank you guys a lot for taking your time to read my post...really appreciate it.

I've few questions, i am planning on changing my mobo and processor since my current rig is quite outdated ( Intel core 2 duo E8400 ), what do you guys think about this build?

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/XpV923,

I was thinking about the Athlonx4 760k but I dont wanna get stuck in a socket i cant upgrade in the future. Is the FX-6300 a good processor? will I be able to do any overclocking ( even thou I've no idea how to OC ) with that mobo? Will I get better performance core per core compared to the E8400? Do I need to download overdrive to enable turbo core, or is it like turbo boost?

Also could you guys recommend me a starter friendly case?

Note: I already have the PSU, RAM and Video Card.

Ok, so the FX 6300 is great for value stuff. However I can't tell you anything about AMD chipsets so IDK about the boards OC abilities.

A good starter friendly case? Try the Phanteks Enthoo Pro, or an NZXT Chassis. The Cooler Master Storm Series is excellent as well.

This case is good for air flow, hence the HAF (High Air Flow)

One of my friends has this one, you can get it with a window too.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

i don't know much about AMD products but i think that PSU is a bit low in terms of wattage, i have a 500W thermaltake PSU with an i7 and a GTX 660 so my advice get around a 600W+ PSU, great for the future upgades as well, with me im planning on upgrading the GPU but i need to upgrade the PSU first so if ur not planning on upgrading for a while go for it.

*EDIT* i checked the GeForce website and it says minimum sys power requirement is 300W, i think i was high when i wrote that last part, but still keep in mind the future upgrades you might want to do

darn please don't use mATX AM3+ boards

they are real trash

I am serious

and no 500 watts is fine for him

but switch to a more reliable brand like Corsair,CoolerMaster, Seasonic, EVGA

-snip-

Yeah, that's a bit of a silly suggestion, considering that this build isn't as powerful as yours, and even you weren't struggling at 500W.

"M. Aronnax." replied the Canadian, "your arguments are rotten at the foundation. You speak in the future, 'We shall be there! we shall be here!' I speak in the present, 'We are here, and we must profit by it.'"

Thanks for the fast replies and suggestion, really appreciate it.

I believe the NVIDIA website states 400w+ if you are using an i7.

So which "budget friendly" board should i get?

This gigabyte board looks ok: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-ga970ads3p

I don't know much about the AMD side of things but iv'e never had a problem with a gigabyte product and they have good costumer service as well.

I also agree that you should pick a better power supply brand. The one thing you don't wanna cheap out on is the power supply.

CPU: 6600K @ 4.6Ghz | COOLER: H100i GTX | MOBO: Asus Z170 AR | GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 Ti Hybrid | RAM: G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB |

CASE: Corsair 760T | PSU: Corsair RM750x | STORAGE: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB & Seagate 2TB | KEYBOARD: K70 RGB | MOUSE: Deathadder Elite

Personally I would rather have an Intel i3 than any AMD chip. Intel in general are usually lower wattage and better performance. I am sure I will be attacked for saying that but oh well! Power supply wise, I have had pretty good luck with Corsair CX & CXM series. Thermaltake are often good too but I have heard people complain. Good starter case for cheap would be Cougar MG100 or Rosewill Challenger. If you can afford a bit more then Cooler Master HAF 912 is more solid.

i7-3770K @ 4.5GHz, ASRock Z77 Extreme4, G.Skill Sniper 8GB DDR3 1866 @ CL9, ASUS GTX 780, CM HAF XM, Samsung 850 Pro 256GB, WD Black 1TB x 2, EVGA SuperNOVA G2 850W, BenQ XL2420TE 24" 144Hz @ 1080p, CM Nepton 280L, Noctua Industrial IP67 2000RPM 140mm PWM Fan x 6

Ya I know the i3-4150 is around the same price and its quite beastly for its price but its only 2 cores.....and ive been hearing that more and more games will take advantage of the multi core technology so I dont really know what to do.

Is AMD that bad? Every1 seems to use intel.

The thing is games really only need "4" cores real or threaded. 6 is excessive but thats the thing about AMD they give you more cores at a slower speed for less money. Thats really what it comes down to. Many people like Intel because they are currently the Top Dog in the matter of performance but AMD really is made for the budget builder in my mind. Even with that said for a budget build the new Pentium is a monster for it's price. While it's a dual core it is so easily overclocked that it is sweet.

I'm a student currently attending the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, if you attend or around there please don't hesitate to contact me!

Mudkip: CPU: i5-4670k; Cooler: CM Hyper 212 Evo; Memory: 16GBs Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz; Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97X UD5H; GPU: ASUS DCUII 770 2GB @ 1254MHz; HDD: Seagate Barracude 1TB; PSU: CX750M; Case: ThermalTake A31 Chaser Thunder

not bad for a budget build, however if you want to keep with AMD and a small form factor m/board like m-atx or m-itx then go with the FM2 chipset and wack in the new Kavari A88 chipset 7850K and hooked to a dedicated graphics card like a R9280x or something.

or if on a total budget you could always get a R7 250X with 2 gig of ram card and use the AMD duel graphics.

Intel is nearly the same price with more options but if you want to be different and have a hybrid rig the AMD FM2+ might be worth looking into.

got to love Asus components

Well i already have the GTX 750 ti. Will the i3 4150 be better than the FX-6300 for gaming ( both at stock ),I don't plan on video editing/enconding. IF the i3-4150 is better then which cheap mobo will you recommend?

it will be better for you to pick the i3

if you want you can pick a H97 board from Asus,MSI and Gigabyte

or you can also pick Asrock
