not primary HDD in BIOS but not Dick Manager or Windows 8.1

no harm setting to IDE mode

and see if CSM was enabled

I set to IDE and it repeatedly went into Windows 8 repair, or the "something went wrong booting up" page. So I've now switched back to AHCI and it is staying on the motherboard loading screen.

EDIT: I don't know how but once the motherboard had stalled at the loading screen I hard booted and it brought up the "something went wrong booting up" page again, so when I restarted it went into Windows 8 recognizing the new drive media. I dont know what changed but it is back in AHCI now with no changes in settings.

EDIT 2: so during that whole mess I switched the SATA cable out (and left it routed) for a more accessible one and assumed that solved the problem, so when I go to reroute the cable in a better way (less sharp corners) and it is all smooth I run again and it has the same problem. Trial and error led me to switch to another sata port and that one worked (which meant it worked after using the test cable too). So I dont know why that caused an issue but it works as a solution.

First of all, Specs: i7 4790k, Gigabyte Z97MX Gaming 5 BIOS F3, Samsung 840 EVO 128GB (Primary OS Drive), Western Digital Blue 1TB(Secondary Problem Drive), Windows 8.1

So the EVO is my OS drive and the WD is my media/games, but originally I had an old Seagate as a temp drive so that I could transfer files that I wanted off of my old PCs HDD(which was the WD) to the new build with the old Seagate. During the process (invlving a 3rd drive so that I didnt lose data) I had the WD at times showing up in Windows 8.1 for cloning purposes, but now that the WD is the only other drive with the same data as the Seagate originally had, it cannot be found in Windows 8.1 or Disk Management, but can be found in the BIOS and Boot Order. Here are images of where I can and should be able to see the WD.

Did you start the PC (From complete shutdown) with the drive plugged in?

Yep it was fully off and unplugged when I installed it and I just did a cold boot to confirm that again

made my day with the title

so you say they are detected in BIOS but not in Windows

what mode did you use in BIOS for the drive?

AHCI or IDE?

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

The Drives are set to AHCI, I believe they were when I was doing cloning in win8 too.
