Laptop Cooler for 17.3" Notebook

Go to solution Solved by xXButchXx,

Check out the Cooler Master SF-17: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834982203

It's got a 4-port USB hub on it too! :)

A friend of mine wants to get a AORUS X7 and he's looking for a laptop cooler capable of that. His budget is up to $70 (his laptop tells you his budget) and it is powered by 1 usb port. (Some are powered by 2 or more)

What is the 4 port USB hub for?

I also saw this one but all I had to question was that ^

If you want to plug in extra things into the laptop if it doesn't have enough USB hubs by itself. Basically, it just gives you an extra 4 USB ports.

So do you just plug 1 in for power?

Honestly it's hard to say with that monster wafer. I would recommend something that plugs into the wall vs usb... they can be a bit wimpy.

Look for the pad that gives the best support, and is mostly mesh. None of that crap with the only holes being where the fan(s) is (are) .

The objective of the cooling pad is mostly lift it off of the table. That alone usually accounts for a major drop in temperature.

I always recommend some sort of mesh laptop stand. This is something you can even make yourself.

That's  just there as an example, not what I'm recommending.

If needed, strap a nice big desktop fan (maybe 1 140mm or 2 120mm) to the bottom using twist ties or zip ties. Make sure the fan is one of those cheap ones with the three way speed switch inline.

You can pick up a power brick with a molex plug for about 10$

As for good non-diy laptops cooler, usb particularity, I'll let others recommend those, becuase the one's I've tried were crap.

Also, if your friend owns any cats, bet that thing needs cleaned.

Yep one USB powers all. One USB goes into the laptop itself and powers everything on the cooler (fans, 4 USB ports, etc).

He just wants a simple cooler. He knows that laptop gets pretty hot but he doesn't think it's worth the hassle.

The one you recommended is pretty good for him simply for the  hub. I just hope itll give the whole area room to breathe fan or not. it looks like even thought he whole thing is not mesh, it lifts the laptop above the pad a bit, which is good.

I just know from experience I very rarely get better temps from a cooler than just raising it on mesh unless it's a powerful cooler with directed flow. With a laptop like that, it's hard telling, cause the whole damn casing gets hot so even a fan right in the middle might help.

I used to fix laptops as a living of sorts, and have had so much bad expierence with coolers.

And the cat comment, that's from experience with these low profile gaming laptops. If you own a cat, within a few moths it'll be roasting itself and a simple cleaning fixes it. Plus that laptop is really easy to clean I believe, think the bottom plate comes right off.
