What to choose in the current market?

Debug

Hello, everyone!

So, my dad will be signing a new 2 year contract and since he isn't the smartphone type of guy, I'll be keeping the phone that he sign the contract for. Thus, I was wondering what current phone should I get?

I am currently using Note 3 and most probably wouldn't be completely switching over to the new device which I'm planning to buy. With the new phone, I'll just be occasionally switching to the new phone. And the sad thing is, my dad's contract cannot wait for the release of iPhone 6, Note 4, etc and my country doesn't really ship Nexus 5, Find 7 or OnePlus One.

So, I'm left with choices like:

  • LG G3
  • Samsung S5
  • HTC One M8
  • iPhone 5S

P.S. - I'll likely jailbreak or root it and install custom ROM after I am done with the stock skins and some tinkering.

What are your honest opinions for the above mentioned devices? Thank you very much!

5s would probably be better for you i believe but if you're an android maniac go for any of the other ones..

Careful, you might be starting a big flame war here :P. I'd go with the S5. Can't go wrong with that IMHO.

One M8.  Great build quality unlike the S5, beautiful skin, lots of RAM, fantastic CPU, great sounding front facing speakers, decent camera, the list goes on.

If those 4 are the only options then the M8 hands down. In daily use, a stock S5 feels slower then my S2 with a custom ROM. I upgraded from my S2 to a Nexus 5 and was blown away, but it was stolen and now I have an M8 Google Play Edition. It's a little bit faster and nicer to hold, but once you hear those speakers, you never want to use anything else :)

Thank you everyone for the reply.

I have went to the store and feel all the devices in my hands and I have been watching YouTube reviews for each devices...

I have come with these conclusions and still is confused:

  • LG G3 - Almost the same size as my Note 3 and I would like to have a device that could be used with one hand.

  • Samsung S5 - All the reviews point towards this device but it just seems like the functions are like gimmicks. Heart-rate monitor and finger-print sensor and since I'll be rooting it, those functions will be useless too.

  • HTC One M8 - The camera seems subpar compared to other devices on the list (based on YouTube reviews) however I really enjoy the premium feel of this device but I wouldn't be using these devices without any casing so it kind of useless for me. The front portion of the device seems really tall too.

  • iPhone 5S - I just noticed that iPhone 5S uses Nano-SIM which I may have difficulties changing between my Note 3 and iPhone 5S. But overall, the functions are pretty good and I don't mind going back to Apple ecosystem.

I would say the 5S just because it can be nice to have the 2 OSs' available but the nano-SIM will probably be a problem. Go with the M8 because you should be able to use it with one hand and would probably be a good compliment to the Note 3.
