1440p worth it over 1080p?

legend8887

If my hardware could support it, would it be worth it to get a 1440p monitor (PG278Q) over a 1080p monitor? Is there a noticeable difference?

Yappes. I believe the saying is "Once you go 1440p, you never go back"

"How hard can it be?" - Jeremy Clarkson

"Speed has never killed anyone. Suddenly becoming stationary, that's what gets you." - Jeremy Clarkson

"There's an old saying that God exists in your search for him. I just want you to understand that I ain't looking." - Leslie Nielsen

Im going to say its not.  but the only reason I say no is because I run three 24" 1080p for eyefinity. Having to move up from 1080p x3 > 1440p x3 would mean a lot more GPU power would be req. As well as the fact that three 1440p is more pixels than 4K so yeah.

The question is how much of a difference there will be in avg. fps let's say in a year running a game maxed out on a GTX 999/ R 999 between 1440p and 1080p.

Because now it is a big difference and that is why I choose to go for 1080p, although atm I have 900p^^ waiting for that damn EIZO 2434 to come out..

If one does not fail at times, then one has not challenged himself.

I'd say stick with 1080p until 2160p comes along at more affordable prices.

1440p will be one of those unusual resolutions that may or may not be supported on things.

Comb it with a brick

I have two Dell U2713HM 2560x1440 screens. I previously had lower resolution ones and I have to say that I absolutely love these. For productivity big screens with high resolution is a must. :)

Coming from a 24" TN 1080p 60Hz panel and going to a Qnix PLS 1440p  96Hz panel... there is not a single regret..

5820K - ASUS X99-A - 16GB Corsair LPX - HD 7970 GHz - Qnix 1440p @ 96Hz - Waiting for Polaris/Pascal
