Tell me about the best 100$ headphones out there.

VintageCake

Am going to attach a modmic on it.

Live in Sweden.

No experience with sound equipment.

Currently own a logitech g35 headset (utter shit) that recently broke due to awful build quality.

Will be playing games, and listening to whatever comes at me. I quite enjoy both DnB and classic.

Would prefer closed ear headphones, but it's fine either way.

Around 100$, more or less.

Thanks for any suggestions :)

AKG K540s are really good, too. On par or even above the 518s, although it still comes down to personal preference. None of the headphones in this pricerange are reference headphones so you really have to like their specific soundcurve.

Well if you wouldn't get yourself a modmic I would say check out the PC 350 SE, good quality in sound and finish, aswell as an mic that is better than the modmic I am pretty sure.

If it must be phones hifi then I would say Beyerdynamics custom one Pro, Beyerdynamics DT-770 M and AKG K-550. All four have a closed design so you will not miss the bass that the g35 has delivered although in a much, much better way, however the 770 Ms are studio phones so the audio reproduction is not really for gaming and such but you have to find out for yourself:)

PS: Any meantioned headphone will blow your mind if the g35 was the best u had til now.

Yeah, if i didn't have such a limited budget i'd pick up the HD598, because i actually like the puke beige and poop brown.

Can you tell i'm a Noctua fanboy yet?

But the hd 598 are designed openly, so the low frequency is not really as present as in closed phones - u must know.

Some decent options you could look at

- Shure 440 (with as upgrade 840 pads)

- Audio Technica ATH-M40x

- Sony MDR-7605 (flat freq response)

These are all closed, if you don't need a closed headphone I would seriously consider the HD518

It's not a must for closed, i guess i'd be fine either way.

Edited main post to reflect this.

What do you mean by a flat frequency response?

They are both "half-opened" so you really get the best of both worlds, I remember when I had the steelseries v2 it gave me that feel :)

The only diff. between those is that the 142HD goes to 101db and has a freq. range from 18 - 24.000 Hz, whereas the 242HD goes up to 104 db and range is 15 - 25.000Hz.

I think they have the same drivers thou.. great headphones from what I have heard and kind of matching you colour preferences ^^

superlux 668B, sony MDR 7506, AKG K240, ATH M40 or better still the M50s if you can catch them on sale .

If you like bright treble, Bang and Olufsen Form 2i (Limited Edition). These are far from the most durable.

Many complaints about their poor head band but the upper end sparkles like no other in this price range.

There also the classic Grado's SR60, which sometimes fall under 100.00, and their new Prestige series

which are under that price point.
