PC won't pass EFI screen- no USB power

I don't know a better way to do this but, remove the battery on your motherboard and put it again. This should reset your bios and solve the problem.

Hello all,

After my recent PC issue, I went to a friend's house to install an i7 2600. There, we tested to make sure all was installed ok, which it seemed to be. The PC was accessing the BIOS and seemed to be fine. I got it home, and again, checked to make sure it was okay after the car journey. It was fine, and all showed up in the bios.

Yesterday, I turned on the PC and it came on to the EFI screen, with the timer counting down 'press ESC in 1 seconds to skip startup.nsh or any other key to continue.

Annoyingly, the USB ports on the motherboard are not powered at this stage so I cannot press any keys to continue.

Bearing in mind that this board has had problems in the past, such as the onboard ethernet just stopping working one day and not working again since.

Is this a relatively easy thing to fix, or is my motherboard bricked?

Full system specs:

Core i7 2600

MSI B75MA-E33

1x4GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1333mhz

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo

Fractal Design Arc Mini R2

Onboard GPU (for now)

Corsair HX750

I have a PS2 adapter, but that does nothing. I don't have a PS2 keyboard either unfortunately which would be useful.

Does your PS2 adapter not let your usb keyboard work for the bios?

Nope. I can't access the BIOS which is the issue.

I also tried that before posting, and even checked the battery with a multimeter. 3.08v so the battery doesnt seem to be the problem.

Thanks for all the help so far.

Does your motherboard have a clear CMOS button at all?

I just read up on this and some people fixed it by moving their hard drive to a differnet SATA port (random I know)

unfortunately not. Would be useful though.

However, after a few battery pulls and restarts, it seems to have fixed itself. I've reset the bios to default so it should be cleared now. Thanks all.
