Which would you want as a gamer personally?

LimpCurve

Now this is a question I think all of us ask ourselves at one point or another. Which would you rather have?

1080p 120/144Hz IPS  ~$500

1440p 120/144Hz TN ~$800

4K 60Hz IPS ~$1000

ASUS' new pro gamer monitor is nice but personally I would choose a 1080p 120/144Hz IPS over that.

4K 60HZ, then 1080p 144hz ips, then the TN.

I would prefer 4K @ 120hz/144Hz TN (ips if available)

but out of the options. 1440p 120/144Hz TN

I'm still waiting for what Gsync will do to the monitor market.

4K IPS with at least 60Hz is the sweet spot for me.

If I'm spending over $500 on a monitor I want 4K, and not some crappy TN 4k either. It needs to have scalers so that I can hook anything up as well as a plethora of input options.

Most HD media today is in 1080p, and scaling up to 1440p can actually result in quality loss. You'd need to be watching stuff in 720p upscaled 2x to 1440p or native 1440p. 4K is perfect for content consumption today as it can perfetly scale everything that is stuck in 1080p, and it is being widely adopted much quicker than 1440p has or ever will be.

ASUS is only now coming out with a 1440p 120Hz TN G-Sync panel so I doubt that will come out for a while. Remember though, the monitor resolution race is almost over.

As someone with a 60hz 1440p PLS screen (PB278Q) i would like a freesync compatible 1440p IPS screen.

4k is just not quite ready for the masses.

I will probably have to get that I guess.

I wonder how many notifications @120hz will get from this thread LOL.

4K 60hz IPS...120/144 is just a gimmick.......

Hahaha.. Yah tell that to all the pro gamers. Let me guess you've never actually tried it. I would never touch a 60hz monitor again.

I would rather have.

1440P 60Hz IPS At Whatever is the price of such monitor. (trading the 144Hz for an IPS) IPS was the better panel type in terms of color, right?

4K is too much for a 7950 and I would really like to avoid the text scaling issues.

EDIT: Oops, mentioned somebody by accident.

Definitely IPS.
As long as it's at least 1080p and 60hz I don't care :P

Not really the kind to get moist over specs for gaming. 60hz is fine for me, and 4k is currently too hard to max games out on, also no 4k movies to really enjoy it...

EDIT: also, 4k text scaling and layouts, no thanks.

Ofc i tried it. My bro has an asus vg248qe and i can't tell the difference between that an my current 1080p 5ms IPS display when gaming in competitive tf2.

The colour looks so SH*T that's why i got a 60hz IPS.
