Random freezes followed by black screen

Archangel1994

Hey guys,

Sometimes when I start my PC and log in as I normally do my PC will freeze. After a few seconds the screen will go black and the graphics card fans will start spinning at 100%. The PC then doesn't respond to anything I do until I restart it, then it doesn't happen. This usually only happens on booting the PC and nowhere else.

Specs:

MSI P67A-G45

I5-2400 @ 3,1GHz (stock)

12GB DDR3 1333MHz

Sapphire Dual-X HD7870XT

Samsung 840 EVO 120GB SSD

Seagate 1TB HDD

Oddly enough this problem started when I downloaded Sapphire TRIXX Utility and used it to crank up the fan speed to 60% fixed instead of using a curve but simply adjusting this can't be it right?

Try scanning for malware first... I'd suggest avast's boot time scan function... Then do chkdsk C: /r...

Also, try not to run TRIXX for a while and reset your clocks to stock...

I'm not really sure what's going on based on just the description but my R7 260X based system fail similarly a few times on me...

I run malware checks monthly and did the boot time scan yesterday. Chkdsk came up with nothing.

I didn't fiddle with my clocks, only with the fan speed which i set to fixed 60%.

try to boot to safe mode and remove the TRIXX program and boot normally

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Not sure what the problem is at this point... You are running the 14.4 Catalyst Drivers and not the beta ones, right?

I'm not suspecting the hardware (yet) so let's rule out the software... Does it crash like this only when you boot or does it happen any time else?

Does this also happen when you stay in the bios?

Yea I'm not keen on reinstalling windows just for this. It's an annoyance yea but I can deal with it if that is the only thing that would solve it.
