Summer/Fall 2014 PC Build

 

Background:

Hey LTT Community,

I’m planing to build a new system this summer or fall for high-end gaming and rendering/simulating. In October I start my studies in Computational Engineering (Computer simulations/Programming) and might need a powerful pc for some projects, too.

As I don’t need the pc immediately, I want to wait until GTX 800 series.

I live in Germany so I converted the prices to USD as well.

 

 

My build so far:

Case:                                    Corsair 350D (window)

(85€ / 115$)

 

Front Intake:                        2x Noctua NF-A14 PWM 140mm

(38€ / 51$)

 

For rear Intake:                   Noctua NF-F12 with a SilverStone dust filter

(17€ / 23 $) + ( 7€ / 10 $)

 

CPU:                                      Intel Core i7-4790K

(I know it's not perfect for gaming but HT might become useful later for some serious work)

(282€ / 381 $)

 

CPU Cooler:                         Corsair H100i

(90€ / 122$)

 

Fans replaced with:            2x Noctua NF-F12

(34€ / 46$)

 

Motherboard:                      Asus Gryphon Z97 Armor Edition

(not available without the Armor in Germany…)

(137€ / 185$)

 

SSD:                                      Samsung 840 EVO 250GB

(105€ / 141$)

 

RAM:                                     2x 8GB Corsair Vengeance Low Profile DDR3-1600 CL10

(just want it to be low profile and black)

(130€ / 175 $)

 

PSU:                                      Corsair RM 750W

(want to have black cables and low noise)

(95€ / 128 $)

 

GPU:                                    Would love a GTX 880 / GTX 870 when it’s released.

(just assuming GTX 780 price for now to have a rough idea)

Keyboard:                          Logitech G710+

(not sure yet but I want Cherry MX-Browns with white backlight)

Mouse:                               I already have (Logitech MX518)

 

Monitor:                             I already have (22inch 1680x1050 TN Panel), want to wait with upgrade for good G-Sync or Freesync products)

 

 

Total:   1,568 € / 2,113 $

 

Feel free to comment and criticize any part of my build!

 

 

 

 

My priorities for this new build are high performance, clean looks and silence.

 

My questions:

     1.  Is my fan setup good this way? I want to prevent dust as much as possible inside the case.

          I might experiment with the orientation of the rear fan (exhaust / intake).

          Fans in top (H100i) are in Pull and exhaust.

I'll remove the SSD/HDD bays as illustrated in the picture for better airflow and looks.

 

     2.  How quiet can I expect the system to be?

          I would love if it was nearly inaudible. Is this possible with this setup?

          I know the NH-D14 is quieter but I love the looks of the H100i :-)
