Portable PC Case

pdawg

Hey everone, I am currently a college student and plan on moving around quite often, mainly during the summer for jobs and back to school. As such, I want a PC that I can take with me, while still being plenty powerful. I started having doubts about my current build plan today, and thought maybe a smaller case/mobo combo might be in order.

My current build is here: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2NTnyc

What are some good cases that can fit in a suitcase/box/travel well? I would preferably like to not ship the PC every time I move.

Lian Li PC-TU200. Won't be a good choice for your graphics card, but is best for portability and sexiness. If you want something small, you need a reference cooler on your gpu. Some other options that might have enough airflow for a dual fan cooler are Fractal's Node 304 or Silverstone's RZV01.

I should be studying.

Thing is, besides the CPU, SSD, and GPU, I haven't finalized/bought any parts yet. I am open to changing anything besides the parts I have already bought.

I travel with an Elite 130. If you stuff some socks in there it should fit in any carry on. You won't have a good time travelling with an ATX build.

how large is this suit case???....

He did mention in the PCPartPicker list that he has purchased only the CPU, HDD, SSD and GPU. Everything else is open for change.

@pdawg Corsair are coming out with a new super-portable Mini-ITX gaming case, maybe worth a look?

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/corsair-graphite-series-380t,27060.html

Seems to be based off the 250D but with better cooling and handles and stuff. Not that most hardware has any cooling issues in a 250D, as people have run 290Xs and stuff, so your hardware will be fine.

Corsair 380T, it should be available in a month. You'll need to change your motherboard.

Anyway you've got a really great PC there, what do you want to do on the portable one? Maybe you would just leave it as it is and just build a portable PC for office programs, internet etc?

Then I would suggest a case that doesn't fit in a suitcase... but is a suitcase: http://www.lian-li.com/en/dt_portfolio/pc-tu100/

Might be worth waiting for the 380T if you can.

Otherwise I'd go with the Elite 130. You'll need a mini ITX board. I don't think your PSU will fit in this case so I'd go with the Silverstone ST65F-G. If your overclocking your CPU you'll need an after market cooler, can't be any more than 65mm in height.
