Planning To Buy Next Month - $6000 Budget

You got it right. Lol. 3k max would be the goal

Yeah, +1 on 3k. 3K will get you an Awesome (still technically overkill) gaming PC. PC's update so quickly that spending a ton on one right now is kinda useless. I'd honestly spend 4k on the whole deal, pc, monitors, peripherals, and put the rest away in an account for when you want to upgrade in 4 years and buying games.

Ok, then buy two "EVGA GTX Superclocked 780 Ti's" from NCIX, put it to SLI and be future-proof... <_<

That's $820+$820=$1640 :), Happy now?

I'd recommend if you're going for a x79 based system, just wait till september for x99 and DDR4. At that point maybe triple SLI 780 TIs or even wait and SLI 880s when they release a month or two after x99

Specs: 4790k | Asus Z-97 Pro Wifi | MX100 512GB SSD | NZXT H440 Plastidipped Black | Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler | MSI 290x Lightning | EVGA 850 G2 | 3x Noctua Industrial NF-F12's

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

If I had the budget that you are blessed to have, I would personally go for this build.

This is a pure gaming build for 1080p @ 60hz without throwing cash out the window, but still being crazy for how well it performs.
Spending too much at once on a gaming rig is not efficient. Theres always new hardware coming out, and if you find that more power is needed. Upgrading on the spot at that point is way more cost effective.

Definitely do not need the $6K for the writing, could probably get by with a two screens and a Mac Mini if I was just writing articles haha.

The money is going towards gaming, and after reading all of the replies to this thread, I'm beginning to think $6K is silly for gaming and nothing more intensive....

even 4k might be pushing it :P :2-3k should get you a kickass computer.

You have an extreme edition paired with only 2 7970s?

+1

I would get a liquid cooler if you wanted, @SethAFitzgerald Just because you can. But a build like this is just about right. Definitely overkill for 1080P but that's the point right? Kinda like a no-holding back 1080/1440p machine.

Now, if you really wanna use up the cash, just go SLI and start watercooling it all. Say goodbye to $800-1k for the watercooling.

Whats with all the fans ? You are spending more on fans than you are on the case.

I would drop the soundcard. Motherboards have good onboard sound these days.

A 24" 144Hz monitor would be better with this sort of budget imo or a 27" 1440p.

You are overspending on the RAM, PSU and SSD.

@SethAFitzgerald, my understanding is that you want a system that you can use for work and play. Presumably a journalist does a huge amount of browsing, twittering, and document creation/editing. On the gaming side you want to be able to do 4K.

Does that sum it up? Is there usage I haven't characterized?

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

2 7970's is literally less than half the cost of your  processor.
