Heavy bass headphones

nanowatt

So as the tiles says i am looking to buy some new headphones because my mdr-xb600 are about to break and i don't know how long they will last, they did the job for 3 years and they are still good but i can't fix the earpads.I have a few ideas of what i would like to buy but maybe you guyz can give me some more options. It has to be bass heavy, over the head and above all to not require a deck.I use my actual headphones only with my phone which is a htc one and only for music like heavy metal or rap so i am looking for nothing but something that can put out a lot of bass.NO beats and NO skullcandy!Beats are way too expensive for what they offer and skullcandy well lets say it i don't trust them anymore.I had headphones from them and they broke after about 2 months.i would consider buying from them again only if you guyz know any good product.

Not good unlike my xb600 kraken have higher frequency response from 20-20,000 xb600 got 4-24,000 i need the bass to be deep not flat.

Be wary of reading too much into frequency response.

That said, in this case, I don't think Senns in general are big on bass... Vmoda is a common recommendation. I heard if you wanna EQ it and you're a super ultra basshead, it can give you an interesting ride.

Isn't that what headphones are all about?

Isn't that what headphones are all about?

Not necessarily. And you also have to take the ratings given by shops and manufacturers with a grain of salt. That's just them doing their own measurements. What if my headphones can play 1hz bass notes? Does that tell you what volume the phone is capable of playing that frequency at relative to all the other frequencies? No. Even on a less extreme note, like 50hz, does just having 50hz in that range tell you if that note at 50hz, whether the headphone can play it perfectly, with great detail, with great speed, with great soundstage? No. Plus, the human hearing range is 20-20k, of course there's sub bass, and for bassheads I can see them caring but just having the company that sells the headphone mark the FR to some low number doesn't really mean much. My throat can make very low frequency sounds, but they won't sound so nice. But the frequency response is there!

That's the thing: FR and just stats like that cannot tell you much about a headphone. It's incomplete as a set of measurements or as a description, it's heavily subjected to fudging of the figures anyways. The way you know if you like a headphone is by other people's reviews and ideally, by trying them out for yourself. You're rarely see people purchase $1000+ headphones without trying them first. It's a little bit like buying a million dollar house for your primary residence but not checking out the house before buying it. Of course, Vmodas are not ultra expensive, so just going by people's testimonials should be fine. Even people's preferences, bias, hearing ability, etc, all change how we perceive the sound. You know best what sounds good to you.

As an all-around recommendation they are fine, but I don't think they are really known for their heavy bass.

+1

Being a bit of a basshead, I thought their bass was lacking at first, but you get used to it and appreciate they're bass isn't stupid exaggerated like some other headphones, there is enough of it without sacrificing other frequencies.

They're inexpensive & very comfortable &, if you're game, there's a simple mod you can do to substantially increase their bass but retain detail in other frequencies, and EQing can get the bass to stupid levels before it distorts.
