so thought id try something different on the forums, im planning on cleaning and selling an alienware laptop i wasted money on back when i was starting into PC gaming and didnt have a clue on what was good and what was bad, this laptop costed me over $3000 AUD from Alienware a few years back and since then ive upgraded to my beast of a PC (i hope...) and now want to clean it up a bit and sell it off to someone and for a bit of extra pocket money.

first things first, go through the files and get off it anything i want to keep, pictures, documents, files of a sensitive nature ;) COMPLETE!

second: find a new 7200RPM HDD to put into it and load a fresh copy of windows 7 onto it

third: clean it up, clean the dust from around the keys on the keyboard, clean the dust off the fans, thinking of replacing thermal paste but may not go into that extreme of cleaning

fourth: asking the amazing community on here for different prices on which to sell it for

fifth: take some glamour shots and advertise it around the place

sixth: wait for that right seller that will take it off of my hands

EDIT: first step is complete, now onto the second step.

EDIT 2: just ordered the new WD black black 500GB 7200RPM HDD, now while i wait to clean up the insides and make it perform better, hopefully

EDIT 3: new HDD just arrived now to get a bit of free time to pull it apart and do some cleaning and replace the HDD

some pictures when i first opened it up

- Post it in the classifieds section.

- If you're savvy enough with PC's, you could always reformat the computer.

- HDD could be easily bought. Then get a Windows 7 key and boot it from a USB to save money once you install the HDD in the Laptop.

- Get the ISO image from here.

- Clean up is easy, just use screen cleaners, partially wet cloth, air dusters, etc.

- Can you provide the specs? Making a price would be alot easier with specs.

Use an 8+ MP camera for good quality, not too hard to find.

just getting a new HDD so people wont recover any of my data from it and the current HDD in it is a 1TB 5400RPM drive.

and probably wont sell advertise it on the forums cause im in australia and dont think theres that many australians on here and i rather not post it in case it gets damaged

One question: How on earth did this cost you so much money? The specs aren't even that amazing...

Random forum question, how can I hide pictures under a spoiler tag?

Also, any tips on cleaning the fans? As you can see they are rather dirty so I think a clean up will allow it to last a bit longer and give better thermals

I have my doubts this actually costed $3000 AUD unless the exchange rate between that and US dollars is that extravagant. I bought an m17x r4 two years ago with the same specs except with a much better graphics card (The 7970m) for literally half that price in US dollars (Around $1500). Stuff like this is what perpetuates the false "Alienware is lavishly overpriced" myth.

Anyway, that aside, I recently sold my Alienware for $1100. With a desktop with a GTX 780, I had little need for the laptop anymore. Plus I don't really game anymore. Bought a rMBP.
