Fractal Design Integra R2 750w Burning Smell and coil whine?

bamerx98

Well it looks like I have done it again, surprisingly this is not the first unit, I've had a bad burning smell along with a horrible ear burning whine. What is worse is the power supply is back feeding at least we think, everything in the house TVs, other desktops get a bad power noise making weird high pitch whines. The smell along with the noise only happens when the computer is under load so gaming and video editing. Has anyone else had this kind of problem or am I doing something wrong? I've submitted a ticket for fractal and hopefully will be sending the unit in for a replacement, but I am interested to know anyone else's power supply stories.

I had one literally burning on flames, you don't want fire on your case. I also had noises of some sorts on PSUs, but fire only 1 time.

I haven't ever let my get that bad I've had one with red hot coils but It was a 525w coolermaster and I had a 7930(7870XT) and a 8350 on it so it was getting way over drawn on power wasn't a surprise that it was going to go, but this 750w really doesn't make any sense that its gone and started to burn its self.

Didn't you hear? every power supply but the one Aniallation owns is garbage. Literally no other power supply is worth existing.

It was a joke. I never said all power supplies are good. If you actually read many of my posts I do state power supplies that are good like the EVGA G2, Seasonic X series, etc.

I never said that the power supply I own is good either. I have a ModXStream 700W, which was given to me by a friend. I in no way feel that it's a great power supply. I use it cause it works, but I wouldn't be surprised if something goes wrong with it and I have to replace it some time soon.

In all seriousness though, there's many better PSUs then the Integra R2. CX500, 500B, and FSP Raider would be three I can pull off the top of my head that I'd rather have. If you want a fractal power supply with good components, Newton R3.
