What motherboard is better?(Plan for Upgrade)

Go to solution Solved by menendez1293,

well f**k. Now I'm confused if I'll get the msi gaming 9 or the sabertooth. :/ It's now performance vs. durability/reliability. Gaming 9 gives me a good performance but the sabertooth is very good at lasting longer :(

I'm planning to upgrade my amd to an intel platform and I've already decided on my CPU(4790k) and planning to do some OC but I'm not knowledgable about what's better than the others. I've put a poll because those are the only motherboards that I can find here in my country.

They're all basically the same, pick the one that fits your color scheme and budget better.

Well on their ads(which I hardly look at) they have different features.Example is MSI with it's OC Genie button and ASUS' TUF Armor and Gigabyte's "Dual DAC" USB. I don't know what are the most bang for the buck feature and they are all in my budget(their prices are very close/similar)

Ok, MSI = if you want to overclock, but don't want to manualy do stuff in the bios, basically save 5 minutes. Asus = i believe the TUF armor is basically just an easier way to monitor MB temps. Gigabyte Dual DAC "Digital to analog" is audio stuffs.

Avoid ROG. It is incredibly overrated and overused. It in itself is not that amazing.

TUF Series however are very dependable, but kind of boring in terms of looks.

Gigabyte's UEFI is not as bad as it used to be, but their boards to me are still meh. Nothing wrong with them though.

MSI, oh damn. They have it all to me. Good looks, nice UEFI BIOS and the reliability to match.

Well my friends burned around 4 msi motherboards.... so.... idk. Their aesthetics are awesome though. Ioving their heatsink.

Oh btw, I forgot that I will put a monster noctua nh-d15 on the mobo so that's why I've put the TUF Series their just because of the added strength from the backplate xD

You can't base a company's reputation on the issues of 4 motherboards, when millions are sold and tested, although I understand why you may be uneasy about it.

You can safely buy the MSI motherboard. They will stand behind their product.

Ok. Well you're starting to convince me. xD I'm already looking at the Gaming 9 AC and I think this mobo can match with a green led/yellow gpu/noctua color. Hahaha

My vote goes for the MSI and that comes form the owner of a Sabertooth Mark 1. Personally I don't think the Sabertooth is an overclocking board, sure it can do it but it was really meant for reliability and stability.

How does the Sabertooth handling so far? And if you have a chance will you really swap that to an MSI board? I really love gaming and beginning to do overclocking but I also really want a mobo that can last until it's already obsolete(so I'm thinking 7 years or more).

The board has been great so far, it has been going strong for about two months now and has been on basically 24/7. If I could swap boards right now without taking a hit I wouldn't, but then again I have little interest in over clocking on this build. The Sabertooth is definitely a board Asus designed to go for the long haul and I plan to run it for about 5-6 years, Like I said the Sabertooth is not really a board that you can expect to have some awesome over clocking features like others out there, but it will do it better than some. My main reason for the Sabertooth was because I generally like Asus' products, second because I liked the way the thermal armor looked, and third because I knew that it was meant to be a board that lasts.

I've made up my mind. I'm going with the sabertooth. :D I think it will be perfect with the noctua scheme color. I really want to overclock(maybe going to do some mild OC) but the armor and the longevity features won me over. I'll just recommend the MSI board with my buddy who wants to OC.

why do you even ask for recommendation if in the end you decide to go the opposite of what everybody suggested? :)

IMHO the sabertooth is the worst board in this list.

Comes with zero interesting features...no zero lag killer ethernet chip, no audio boost 2, no gaming device port, no OC genie...all it has is that gimmicky plastic armor which IMHO looks utterly ridiculous...

In a couple years down the road people will remember this board as being the one with a stupid plastic shield on it and an cheap ass fan 40mm. fan...i mean how could covering a board with plastic could improve the thermals in any way?

what would make you run cooler? running naked or wearing a cheap a$$ plastic body armor? i can't tell... :(

One thing i can tell for sure is that the plastic armor won't make you any tuffer (even if you call it a ''TUF'' armor) or make you last longer.

A downside of the Thermal Armor design is its two fans. Although not critical to stable operation, the 35- and 40-mm fans are audible under idle operation and borderline irritating under high loads. I would be inclined to use just one unit, or none at all.

oooookkkk... no need to get so negative about it. I'm not seeing other people having comments about what's the bad mobo. It's true the gaming 7 and gaming 9 can be my best option but if those extra plastics help me in dust management and helping the board itself be more rigid(which is true) then I'll take it. I'm also liking the color scheme. I'm thankful for your recommendations and I'm thinking to wait for the VII Formula but don't be so negative of what I'm choosing. Please don't be mad about it. :)

Nice, what case are you putting the build into?

I'm thinking of the Corsair Air 540. Then getting the nh-d15 and an r9 290 tri-x and lots of air optimized noctua fans. I'm liking the color scheme. :D I'm thinking of the msi gaming 9 but I'm a bit worried of the looks especially that my case will have a windowed side panel.

EDIT: Is the fans really that loud just like @i_build_nanosuits tells me? I'm not sure if it's PWM but if it is, then I can just adjust the fan rpm to the lowest setting. heck, they said you can opt to not use it at all xD

The two fans on the mobo.

For me those fans are only LOUD when they reverse direction. Other than that, mine are dead silent.

Note i capitalized loud because its pretty loud honestly. But seeing as it runs for only 30-45 seconds every hour or two depending on your options and anywhere between 30 seconds to 10 minuets after a shutdown (again depending on your options) its not that big of a deal for me.
