140mm Silent Fans (I messed up my choice...)

Krydel

Hi,

I'm currently using 5 x 120mm Aerocool Dead Silence fans and 1 x 140mm Aerocool Dead Silence Fan as rear exhaust in my NZXT H440. Temps are absolutely fine but they produce a frequency i personally find unpleasant, so it looks like i'll have to bite the bullet and buy some new fans, this time i'll go for 5 x 140mm.

Any recommendations? I was looking at switching it the Be Quiet Silent Wings 2 140mm. I'm running only a modest overclock on my i5-4690k so its at 4.0Ghz permanently at 1.15v so i'm all about silence than extreme overclocking.

Thanks in advance.

If you want silence you only need 2 or 3 fans in your case. 1 or 2 as front intake and one in the rear as exhaust. Both the Noctua NF-A14 fans and the Be Quiet! Silent Wings fans will be fine for that.

I'll happily take the old fans off your hands  :D Currently in the process of getting some fans for my H440.

I'm in the UK and i assume this being a US/Canadian populated forum getting them to you would be an issue?

They're not loud at all, something about the frequency they do gently hum at doesn't sit right with me though.

Haha. I had Aerocool dead silent fans once. It was weird. They were silent, but not quite. And they transferred a good amount of vibrations to the case because their fan blades are so heavy. They do look amazing though.

Went the uber silent route with bequiet silent wings 2. They are perfectly silent especially when rubber mounted. Noiseblockers are a good choice too.

who cares...

Silent Wings 2 are good. I'd personally go for NF-A14's though.

Aha, someone in my position! That is what i noticed. Quiet, but they transfer a fair amount of vibration to the case.

Noiseblockers I can't get 140mms in, and my logic is that 140mm fans is going to be quieter than kitting the case out with 120mm fans.

Worth the plunge? Otherwise I would go for Noiseblockers.

If looks were not a factor, i'd jump at these. As they are, I will avoid.

Yeah that's correct. 140 mm fans tend to be quieter. bequiets are a good choice for style and performance while being ultra silent. I prefer the looks of the Aerocool but i just care more about noise. :D Also note that the bequiets don't have a regular square frame design and that might lead to incompatability especially for water cooling (it's possible, but not easy).

I'm entirely air cooled so thats fine. I picked up 5 x 140mm for £75 last night, sold my aerocools to the guy above so now just to wait for them to arrive!

Interestingly, whilst the NZXT stock fans are louder, they sound nicer - i like the whoosh rather than the gentle hum/vibration of the aerocools.

Wow. You don't hesitate. :D

I prefer a hum if it's nut due to vibrations. Like the MSI TwinFrozr 4 cooler is extremeley quiet because the noise that it gives is a brief hum unlike other cooelr designs.

It's all about that efficiency :P

I have the twinfrozr4 on my gtx780 and it's certainly very pleasant to listen to even under load. Same goes for the dark rock pro 3 I have, which i believe have silent wings 2 on anyway so in theory more of the same will sound fine :D
