Do you want life-like graphics in games?

Hey guys, just want to know what your opinions are on realistic graphics for video games. This topic came up while my cousin and I were talking about future games such as The Division and Rainbow 6: Siege.

We both said that those games aren't close to what the outside world looks like today, but when will that time be? And do you want that day to arrive?

Note that this poll is anonymous, so no one will see what you voted. If you have the time, feel free to share what you picked, and why you picked it, thanks! :)

I'm not really fussed, aslong as I am playing a game that I enjoy, I will be happy.

But with better graphics it means more POWAAAAAH! is required, to a certain extent.

For me Graphics don't make or break a game, its all dependent on the quality of the game. Unless of course its like Crysis where you buy it for the graphics, or it looks like the dev just didn't even try.

My System Specs: (Short list) i7 4770k, GTX 780, many SSD's, a 2 TB HDD(deceased :( ), Corsair 650D. Full list: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/kchriz6097/saved/8dh7YJ

This is a main concern for me especially with games with aquatic environments - I have a phobia of fish. But that won't stop developers; flying fish, fish on land, creatures with fish features, fish... fish... fish... Guess I'll stick to games without photo-realistic graphics. Oh, wait. Cheep Cheeps in Mario games creep me out. FML.

I agree that graphics don't make or break a game but they have to at least be decent for me. As long as the game is good and also looks good as well I can easily enjoy it. Except for Half-Life, I always like to play that game.

I have an upper limit, but close to real life would be okay with me.

I want the storytelling and writing to catch up first. But after that i don't really know. Lifelike shooters would probably be horrible to play.

Seeing someone bleed profusely in front of you with 1 to 1 lifelike graphics would probably be a bone chilling experience.

It really depends on the genre of the game and what audience it's going for.. Some games can look great with cartoonish art, but generally speaking, I prefer graphics that are as immersive as possible.

I really could care less. The problem I'M seeing is that textures have gotten to the point of photorealism, but player models haven't. That's what's so immersion breaking about modern games that are supposed to look real(Advanced Warfare) is that the player models aren't realistic enough and resolutions that meet what our eyes can comprehend aren't available yet commercially. Then you'd have to find a way to have glasses-less(important for a person who wears glasses) 3D that WORKS(i'm looking at you nintendo) at that resolution as well as colour accuracy...it's too much work for everyone else to put in NOW that i don't care about it. Once technology advances(probably before i'm 25 years old) to the point where we can have such things, then i'll ask myself this question again.

those games even heavily modded look like games. IMO Nba 2k14(ps4) looks most like real life. Especially from far away(or at a glance). I cant tell you how much times I walked in to my brothers room and asked who is playing.

i believe there's goingto be a point where you cannot recognise 3d charecters from real world input, skin is the hardest texure to replicate i believe, nvidia has been doing some R&D on this department & they demoed it on GTC it was pretty darn impressive as for the realistic effect, but the subjects lip movement wasn't a complete perfection as you can tell there's something wrong with it, But it's evolving, the games are geting better, HDD size is getting better & GPU Horse power is getting better plus the resolution on which it can be played is getting better , Even tho it's just a number  ,

I loved the old need for speed blacklist merged the two world together so realistically, metals as in cars was pretty realistic & it's enviornment pretty subtle & then merge it into the real world with actors , pretty interactive & solid I'd say.. even tho it was back a few years ago, it's certainly one of the best games i've played..

So yeah! it's cool to see devolopment in the 3d render coming to a realistic enviornment..

Details separate people.

I really don't notice graphics when playing games. CS:GO looks as good as CS 1.6 to me when I'm focused on the game.

personally, i do want life like graphics in games as long as they are meant to be realistic. In a game like borderlands though, the stylized graphics fit pretty well

"Life Like" Graphics would be cool, all-be-it, it'd feel weird to me, but, it'd still be pretty neat having a few games later on that could boast an amazing story, placed in an amazing world, with life-like graphics to get fully immersed in.

There will be a point where graphics are so similar to reality that there is no point in innovation of graphical technology. Which means there is no reason for better and better GPUs unless there is a need for more frames. Anyways, when that point reaches, there will probably be a change for a different graphical style like pixel art style games but I don't know, I'm not the god damn DeLorean.
