i7-4790K - looking for ideal Mobo and RAM

Hi Guys :)

I'm upgrading my rig and would love any feedback and suggestions you have! :)

I'm looking the 4790K and need help fining a motherboard and ram with great synergy.

The purpose of this rig is 50% video editing, 50% gaming. Budget for CPU, Mobo and Ram is about a $1000.

I looked into Haswel-e, but can not afford to wait for it to be released.

The rough idea for now is:

- 4790K

- possibly Corsair Vengance Pro 32gb, or something similar

.. and then the Mobo ..

The main idea is really just to find something that has good synergy, is stable and offers good performance.

SLI possibility would be great, but not a deal breaker. Onboard sound or my auzentech forte.

Thanks for reading! I Appreciate any thoughts, feedback and ideas! :)

Hi. I'm in the US.

Yeah $1000 is the available budget. Don't have to spend all of it.

I figure you spend ~ $350 on a cpu, ~ $350 on 32 gigs of ram, a motherboard you reach about $900 - $1000.

I'll see if I can whip something else up.

Edit:

Do you need a CPU cooler?? Or have you got that sorted out?

Here's what I managed with the $1,000 cap:

I have a Noctua NH-D14 I might stick with if the RAM fits. If not I may swap that as well.

Ah ok, that should be awesome then, I'm unsure if it will fit, maybe you might have to get some LP RAM, the G.Skill Ares and Corsair Vengeance LP modules are pretty dam low, so they will definitely fit.

Thanks so much for your feedback! I'll look into everything and get back to you!  :)

I know it doesn't make a huge difference, but I'd love to get some RAM that's at least 2133 or 2400 .. ;) Any ideas?

G.skill ripjawsZ. it's 2400mhz,CL10 and if i remember correctly, they will fit with the noctua.

They are compatible.

@nyden

Given that data the Vengeance Pro modules fit so I suggest going with them:

Black and red with the Mpower? It's not gonna look nice. And besides,g.skill has better latency.

Ahhhh yeh whatever lol :P, was just working with a build with the GD65. Hmmmm, before I had some CL9 2400MHz Pro RAM, I'll see if I can find it or if my eyes were just fooling me.

Yeh you're right, the Ripjaws Z are probably the best possible, CL10 with 2400MHz, and compatible with the colour scheme and CPU cooler.

if i were u, i would wait for x99

I'm in a position that would make it difficult to wait. however, this should be a good investment.

Realistically, how much waster would X99 and DDR4 really be than the set up we are discussing here..?

There are all these questions: How good will the first batch of these new components really be? Won't it be a while until the performance of the new standard is realized? If I were to upgrade in about 3 years, would I still fly well with the current generation? Is the new technology initially going to be quite a bit more expensive? How would these two set-up compare cost-to-performance-wise?

Again waiting 3 or 4 months is difficult for me at the moment, but if the performance jump justifies the wait ..?

Generally, I feel like buying the second generation of something is a much better purchase than the "prototype" - or first generation, wouldn't you say?

It's not gonna make a difference in games but damn it's gonna be so much faster in rendering.(not that the 4790k isn't)

Buying x79/x99 CPU only makes sense if you got money to spend or you really really need it.That means it's up to you if you should wait. Are you rendering casually couple times/week for youtube or professionally?

Also, the DDR4 price will be so much high when x99 comes out so,you can't fit a X99 cpu, motherboard and ram with $1000.A pair of 32gb ddr4 now costs $650 lol.

Imho, you should not wait for X99 unless rendering is your job and you get payed for it.

I am not experienced with the X platform but buying a last gen cpu is only for the overclockers,no one else.(don't you dare buy 4770k lol. It's still shit.)

Did a build for a guy last weekend with these parts:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($339.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: MSI Z97-Gaming 9 AC ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($284.99 @ Amazon)
Memory: Kingston Beast 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2400 Memory  ($194.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $819.96
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-07-22 08:48 EDT-0400

That motherboard is just plain sick (look and performance/OC, and the onboard audio is hawt)

Same proccesor (its oc'ed to 4.8ghz btw)

Used the kingston beast due to the asthetics and the proccesor is liquid cooled so i could use high profile ram

I would go with these parts just of the scheer awesomeness it has, BUT  i would chance the ram for you tough due to youre cooler, i would go with 2x8GB of kingston HyperX Fury 1866 (low profile and good specs) and i use it in my own system too.

just my 2c

Let's agree to disagree
