CoolBeans

What is a good VPN that is free and doesn't have ads like hotspot shield?

I honestly don't know if there are any. Good and free don't usually go together. If you do find a decent one, it is probably likely to have speed limits or data limits. Otherwise it will have ads. I'm interested to know if there are any though.

I am guessing now but I'd be very surprised if you'd 3mbps from a free VPN. I'd say you'd be lucky to get 1mbps.

Tunnel Bear.

TunnelBear is a good vpn imo. Every month you get a 500MB cap and if you tweet about their service you get 1GB extra (repeatable every month).

Personally I use OpenVPN and PPTP solutions like: http://freevpn.me/ & http://www.vpnbook.com/.

Awful latency and some packet loss, but there's no bandwidth limit of any kind.

If I need a VPN for gaming or other purposes that require low latency, I'd go for services like Hotspot Shield.

Hola-extensions/addons is always installed and synced up in Chrome and Firefox. Mainly to unblock sites that's not available in my region.

Tor might also become handy sometimes.
