Has 4k improved your gaming experience?

G9x001
Go to solution Solved by azngamer101,

I bought the Dell UP2414Q 4k monitor back in January and playing battlefield on it has been amazing but like everyone is saying you have to have the hardware to drive it. I'm running only one 780 gtx and I can only play it on high with some tweaked settings. I can max it out on warcraft. But looking back I wish I did a little more research and would of gone with the LG 34UM95.

Hi I'm looking at doing a full system upgrade in October. what I would like to know is has 4k given you a great gaming experience or are we still a few years away from seeing a great gaming 4k monitor.

factors: price vs performance.

frame rate 4k vs 1440p scaling

can two top end cards R9 290x or Gtx 780ti run descent frame rates in 4k.

I'm looking for feed back from only people that have a 4k monitor thank you.

Get a ASUS Swift1440p , 4K is still a bit away from being playable at 60fps on 1 gpu.

I think less than ten people on this forum have 4k monitors...... i'd go with a gsync 1440p montior

Do not go for 1440p if your budget does not allow for great hardware and you just want a lot of of work space. i will be getting 4k for the  work space, and you can still 1080p game on a 4k screen, and it will look native since the scaling from 1080p to 4k is 1:4.

But if you are into gaming purely than 1440p is a good idea.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

I'd counter that assertation by saying that more actual workspace (1440p 21:9) trumps more virtual workspace (28" 4k).

3840 × 2160 vs 3440x1440?

What are you smoking? Actual workspace? Virtual workspace is all we're talking about, and really all that matters.

Not saying I wouldn't like a 21:9 1440p screen. Cause I would.

I bought an asus pb287q 4k monitor on sale for 699, had to replace it with a new one because of a dead pixel out of the box. I have a single gtx 780 ti and I can play games at medium with decent frame rate. I'm getting another 780 ti to sli for higher graphics settings. Things look absolutely stunning in 4k, however there are still lots of issues right now. I would recommend waiting.

Run mine with 2 r290x cards. Runs like a dream. Just shy of 60 fps in crysis 3 ultra... Not bad at all!

Only the pretty titles run just shy of 60 fps and you'll barely notice.

People keep looking at the major site benchmarks which turn the graphics up to ultra with max aa, this kills it, but you don't actually need it at that resolution, aa is all but a waste.

I'd never go back to 1440 or 1080. If I run into trouble with graphics, I can always drop it back to 1440 anyway!
