Best 2560x1440 gaming monitor

Guest

Hi,

I need a new monitor. My beloved Dell ultrasharp 29" from 2009 was pushed off the side of my desk by an evil cat.

I am going to be doing casual gaming and general use on it.

I have a £100 promo code for this website (Scan.co.uk) So would prefer to buy it from there. I would also buy from here (Ebuyer.com).

I am also undecided as to what aspect ratio to go for (21:9 or 16:9 etc)

Any help and suggestions will be very much appreciated.

Depends if 60Hz or 120/144Hz.

If 60Hz there are many 1440p monitord available ( PB278q by Asus for example )

If 120+Hz you can get a ROG Swift.

The new RoG Swift looks really tempting if your wallet can handle it. 1440p, 144hz, 27" 1ms response (TN though, not IPS), G-sync.

Thanks for the replies :)

Yeah had a look at that one earlier. Gsync is really tempting.

Got a 770 to sell so I might be able to afford it.

Is there anything in around the £450-500 mark that would be good for gaming?

You could consider this LG 29EA73  it's £387 on scan

But if you want zero tearing or stuttering then G sync for the win

It has an 8bit panel so it will look as good as some IPS monitors.

viewing angles are pretty killer on TN panels.

But seriously who plays while looking at their monitor on an angle? Really it's not a very valid problem.

Asus PB278Q

Just found out that my promo code is actually out of date.

It's a shame :(

Any ideas for ones in about the 400-450 price range?

Does the PB278Q look good? I saw it a while back at a lan and it looked pretty awesome :)

Get that, or the Dell u2713hm; 27" 1440p for about £370 on Aria, plus you can get them.to pixel check it for £11, which will probably also cover backlight bleed if you asked them. Bad backlight bleed, at least.

Ah didn't notice that! That's happened to me before with ASUS monitors, I expected one monitor and bought another. Luckily the one I bought was cheap before I upgraded to this monitor.

Don't have enough for that one I'm afraid :)

Probably gonna go for the PB278Q or the Dell U2713HM.

There a quite some good 1440p monitors out there, but the upcoming Asus RoG Swift is amazing... even though there isn´t yet a definite release date other than saying July 2014... that´s torture... I want that monitor really bad.

You´re killing me haha :). I am soo tired of the waiting game... I wanted that monitor badly since the first time I´ve been reading about it.

Sure many people will say that isn´t worth the 800$ price tag, but I don´t care because this monitor is worth it for me with every dollar... the features are overwhelming.

I have been arguing with myself for quite a while whether I should get this or a good 4K display... but in all reality with my GTX780 Ti SLI I don´t even have to think about 4K in an acceptable way for me. But my SLI will be good enough for the Asus RoG Swift :).

Okay, this is the one part about this forum that drives me insane. How are people recommending the PG278Q? NONE of you have ever seen one. Only reviews. Which makes your input marginal at best. This is like when everyone was saying how fantastic 4K was without ever seeing one.

Odds are that it will be great, especially after listening to Tiny Tom's video about it. We just don't know personally.

Mhhm, can you show me by chance where I said people should buy that monitor? I just wrote that I personally find it amazing and it's up to me to decide if I want to spent 800USD for a monitor or not... none of your business. And as long as I do not have it at home for review I will not tell people to blow 800 bucks out the door for a product I do not own myself!

I've seen Tom Logans review and read all articles that I could find about it, and that's what convinced me to get this as soon as it's released.

Besides that I agree, when people that don't have a certain hardware give advice what to buy to others... and I've wrote this probably a hundred times already.
