Budget Oriented TV

pbenologa

Do you have any suggestion for a TV sized 24" or above and not exceeding $250? Main use will be, console gaming and movie watching.

P.S this is for my sister not mine. :)

baaaahhhh  for yo little sister aahhhh thats so sweet a 24'' tv. ^_^

The big brands dont really make small tv but there are some out there.

I suggest a simple LG or Samsung because they cost between 180,- to 220 price range.

There are also some Akai en Lenco TV's these have a build-in dvd player which does sell alot for the kids that like dvd movies.

Most of all there all HD Ready not FULL HD, so keep your eyes peeled for a FULL HD one, it makes the image look much better.

LG 24MA53 is a done deal if you could get it under 180 euro's here and its FULL HD.

This looks tempting at that price:

TCL is the third largest TV-maker after Samsung and LG.

Interesting. As a North American I've never heard of TCL. However, it looks like they own the RCA and Alcatel brands, which are sold here. It appears that RCA is actually owned by Sony and Technicolor, in trademark form only, but they lease the RCA name out to TCL.

For Sale: Meraki Bundle

iPhone Xr 128 GB Product Red - HP Spectre x360 13" (i5 - 8 GB RAM - 256 GB SSD) - HP ZBook 15v G5 15" (i7-8850H - 16 GB RAM - 512 GB SSD - NVIDIA Quadro P600)

Yup. TCL is a fairly big company; it dominates the Chinese market. Changhong is another big Chinese TV brand.

Unfortunately it's quite difficult for us North Americans to know when a Chinese manufacturer is "Good" or "Cheap". Obviously the stereotype is that China makes a bunch of cheap knockoff crap... and that's not wrong, but they ALSO make a lot of high end crap too like Apple and many top end motherboards and GPU's, etc.

Most of these Chinese manufacturers and brands we've never even heard of, or have a certain *negative* stigma associated with them (example being Huawei supposedly putting backdoors in their network equipment for Chinese hackers to get into - though many think the NSA forces US companies to do the same).

In general, Chinese CE brands still do cater to the value end of the price spectrum (save for some niche HiFi brands perhaps). Most cannot charge as much as the major Korean and Japanese brands for feature-equivalent models, though they do often supply these better-known brands.

When shopping for a bargain though, one can find surprising value from China's more established makers while keeping some feeling of security (these big makers want to build a good brand reputation, as they have global aspirations). There is more risk with their smaller "up and coming" makers (they come and go), so these cater to the more adventurous customers.

Since the threadstarter's sister is looking for a $250 TV, I just thought that the larger diagonal of a Chinese TV would be better appreciated than the typically more accurate image and better brand equity offered by Samsung, LG, Sharp, Panasonic, Sony or Toshiba.
