Intel Core i7-4770k vs. Intel Xeon E3-1246 v3

Go to solution Solved by Rubenis,

Get the Xeon if you are sure, that you will not overclock it. If the price difference is 30$, then get i7. In my country Xeons are in price i5s.

I've never dealt with Xeon processors before but I saw in a benchmark that the i7-4770k and the Xeon e3-1246v3 are VERY similar and the Xeon is actually $30 cheaper.

I've read that Xeon's are more workspace related but hows that any different from any intel? XP

Is there a big difference between the two?

Do I need a fclga mother board or will any lga 1150 work for a Xeon?

Just trying to learn a little more about em.

Thank you in advance!

The Xeon is the same as the 4770k just without the onboard graphics. That's it.

I'm not sure about the overclocking though because I've seen people overclock those LGA 1150 Xeons before...

Why not get a 4790k it's only 10 dollars more than a 4770k.

get the xeon if you don't need to overclock or just plain don't need a 5% perfomance bump or never going to use it afterall even if you get a 4770k or 4790k, altho beware it doesn't come with integrated graphics, so make sure of that when you decide to buy it, get an AMD 8 core if possible if you want to save out on uber perfomance & get a steady CPU like that. But your choice mate.

Details separate people.

You better read more about Xeons. Those who numbers ends not with 0 has built in graphics. This Xeon has Intel® HD Graphics P4600.
