tv recommendation which tv to get

cihadagca

Hi people,

I'm going to be buying a TV for my living (first house bought, first tv bought, first time "building" a living). I'd say I know the market for various electronics including monitors, but I have very little knowledge when it comes to TV's. I'm going to list a couple things that I want the TV to do / have below, including my budget and what I will hook up to the TV.

What I need:

Size: between 40 - 45 inch. Ideally I'd want 42, but there might be some otherwise ideal tv's which I could overlook

Features: 3D is not a must, smart features would be nice (netflix, browser) but the PS4 which I'll connect on it can serve for that too. The TV has to be "hangable" (I think almost all TV's are, this proves my ignorance when it comes to TVs)

Consumption:  I'd say about 50% it's going to be used for cable tv, 30% for movies and 20% for games

Design: The colour (gray/black) doesn't really matter, I'd just want the TV to look good. I like most designs so I don't think the design of an otherwise perfect (for the price) TV would cause me to not buy it.

Budget: around 600 EUR. I'm living in the Netherlands, a well known store here is www.mediamarkt.nl, which is likely where I'll be buying / ordering the TV. Any other model recommendation outside of this website is welcome.

Another question: Can someone give a general idea of the difference between Samsung and Sony? The general difference in picture quality? Currently I'm more drawn towards Sony, but I'm rather stubborn and have been going with Sony for a long time and seems fine. A model I've been considering is the Sony KDL42W805B

There could be some things I overlooked, I'll be active in the comments to answer any questions. Any recommendation would be helpful and appreciated!

As of last year, they've changed to much and the ones I was looking at probably aren't even available anymore.

Samsung usually do the best budget ones and personally can vouch for them. As you have a PS4, I wouldn't bother getting a 'Smart' one, the apps usually aren't as good anyway. 3D is something that varies from TV to TV so would try it out first if possible before ordering or try to find user reviews as even very expensive TV's can have c****y 3D, I decided it wasn't worth it.

Another thing usually over-looked is power-consumption, keep a close eye on this. Bought a good specced TV before and it's very inefficient, lets off a lot of heat and whine.

Thanks for the advice! Didn't see any recommended models / brands but really useful, will definitely keep an eye on those aspects

Samsung is Korean and Sony is Japanese.
Samsung bring alot 'extra' color but a Samsung tv does not really shine in the 600 ish euro zone. you need to go higher if you want something acceptable from Sammy.

Sony are more in the black levels and  neutral color aspect and it has a great remote and have a matte finish on the screen (thank god).

The sony model W805B you are considering is now dirt cheap, (i saw the paper discount).

You will not be getting something better for that price.
