Crossfire Issue

Oeufcocque

I have some visual problems with my current crossfire 2x MSI R9 280X.

It is not quite like the screen tearing that I know, but is more like the next frame is pushing away the previous frame upward, causing the bottom half of 1st frame, and the upper part of 2nd frame displayed together

   ______

a1          a1

a2          a2
a3_____a3
This is frame A, split into 3 parts

   ______

b1          b1

b2          b2
b3_____b3

This is frame B, also split into 3 parts

For what I know, screen tearing is

   ______

a1          a1

b2          b2
b3_____b3

Which while is quite disturbing, but my issue even worse

   ______

a3          a3

b1          b1
b2_____b2

Which make this bug very noticeable and makes me feel quite nauseatic

This is not the only issue, there are also several visual bug where several black boxes appear on the screen, when I watch videos on media player classic, green line appears on top of a web page(youtube), and quite some more.

I tried to remove one of the GPU, the issues persists but is much less noticeable and less frequent compared to when both GPU are used.
Any idea about the issue and how to solve it?

are you on AMD driver ver 14.4?

can you swap display cables?

mind telling us the full spec of your PC?

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

I tried AMD 14.4, find the problem, and then roll back to the version recommended on the MSI page, which is 13.6, where the problem still persists.

I also tried the radeonpro, trying to tweak several of its options to no avail

I can't. My ASUS ML239H only allows VGA/HDMI input, and I am currently using DVI->HDMI cable provided in the LCD box.

Spec:

mobo = Gigabyte Sniper M5

CPU = 4670K

Memory = corsair low profile 2x4GB(cant find the exact name) 1600 mhz

HSF = Hyper 212X

PSU = NZXT 850Watt, Hale82 series

SSD = kingston ssdnow 120gb

HDD = WD black 1 TB

GPU = 2x MSI R9 280X gaming

i VERY much doubt this, but it could be a lack of power? Probably not ?

Very much doubt that would be the issue, considering that I have attempted to go for 1 GPU for a while and the issue somewhat persists, though less frequent.

1 R9 280x + the other parts should never overload an 850 watt PSU.

Considering that there are many small issues like the problem with videos, I really want to try to swap the display with another, but I'll wait until I can eliminates other known possibilities, since this action may be either costly(buy), or a major hassle(borrow).

yea i will suggest swapping with your friend a new monitor

can you try with just the onboard display?

just to verify if both GPUs are the trouble

how old are the GPU and are they used?

Sadly I need to find some1 with 1080p display, which is not very common around me. most of my friends use laptop to game.

Or can I just use my previous ~720p display to check?

Before I use the crossfire, I was using the onboard graphics, HD 4600, and there is no issues except for the lack of graphic powwaaa

I RMA'd the GPU, so, very new, ~ 1 week old.

I have tried

  • going 1 GPU on both of the PCI socket on motherboard
  • Clear CMOS, flash latest mobo bios, all bios config on optimized default
  • flash new GPU bios
  • reinstall windows
, and the issue still persists...

yea any monitor will do

its for troubleshooting

sounds like a hardware issue either the GPU (again) or monitor

will try and post the result later.

Hmmm does this happen in every game? I ran two 7970's before and had a similar problem with a couple of titles. Usually I disabled CF, but in your case this really sounds like a GPU issue. Maybe RMA the 2nd one and test your GPU that you RMA'd before to see if it is the 2nd GPU. There are so many problems with CF.

The issue exist not only inside a game, but also on  youtube which is very bizzare.

The games I tried it on are Tomb Raider, and DOTA 2, both suffers the same issue, although on DOTA 2 the issue is much more vivid.

I will try RMA again eventually, but for now, I want to try out any other possible issue, since RMA will take quite a while.

Tried an LG display at the same resolution, the same issue happens.

Now I think it is either the mobo's PCIe slot problem, or GPU, although GPU is questionable since this has been swapped..

Is there any software issue that will affect browsing / watching videos?

disable hardware acceleration in flash

I can't find the troubleshooting tab on display -> advanced properties, which seems to be necessary to disable it.

Any other way I can disable hardware acceleration?

Oh god im so dumb..

I saw this before your post and it didnt work when I full screen a youtube video, alt+tab, and right click the task icon...

Now I realize i simply need to find a flash, right klik the flash window inside any url, and go to setting..

I've disabled it, and hopefully this will work.

Will report the result in few days

EDIT: I thought this would work, but 2 minutes in, and the issue resurface..
