Can I use HDMI to connect a PS3 to a monitor?

Aps

Found a PS3 for cheap at the local shop :D Only problem is I have no TV as I use my PC for gaming now. Since both have a HDMI port (ps3+monitor) can I connect them together?

No, you need an Intivida Titan Zxeon x295 to do that.

Yes, so long as the monitor has a scaler in it that can scale 720p to it's native (90% chance +)

Kind of an old topic, but yes, you can use a dvi to hdmi adapter or directly if your monitor has hdmi. Additionally, you can output the audio through the regular composite av cable if your monitor doesn't have a headphone port. There is an adapter from the red and white rca to 3.5mm, so you can use average pc speakers or headphones.

I know its already solved, but yes you can. Also, monitors are better than TV's when it comes to gaming. I've been running on a 27 in monitor even though I can use a TV instead.

Guys, you forgot to note one importat thing : the monitor must support HDCP (High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection)

If it has HDMI input, it should support it.

If it has DVI only, be careful, I bought ps3 originally to play on my LCD monitor, so I bought ps3 with HDMI->DVI cable. It was not working, as my monitor didn't have support for hdcp.

To sum it up: if it has HDMI use it, it will work. If it has DVI only, check whether it supports hdcp.

You can connect virtually any connector to any other connector with adapters.

This will explain HDCP. If you monitor support HDCP it has to work. If your monitor doesn't support HDCP you have to buy an HDMI active splitter(with power cord) or to be 100% sure a HDCP remover.

That's because XBOX One doesn't has HDCP. If you have a Playstation 4 you can disable it. The Playstation 3 has HDCP always on so you have to remove it.

While the One doesn't use it for games, it still uses it in the Media apps such as Netflix.

Well.

PS3 has only HDMI.

Your monitor has HDMI.

2+2=4.
