Don't buy the Nivdia SHIELD

meritmaster

The Nivida shield as a device is awesome, and all the hardware inside of it can be amazing at some points, but the SHIELD is built nothing like a shield, and can break on you in a matter of days.

My very first pay check that i got in December (330$) from my first job was stolen from me i felt.

I bought the Nivdia Shield around the time it was going on "Sale" for $250, and would include a really awesome HDMI with Ethernet inside of it (why?), but i thought it looked like a good deal, and it wouldn't be there for long, so i snatched it up on Newegg.

I ended up buying a new router that costed me some out of my next pay check which was a lot smaller, but i purchased the one i wanted which was a Buffalo air station 1200 (Awesome).

When my Shield came, i fell in love, and couldn't detach myself from the device, as it was the first truly powerful tablet i have seen, and loved the screen, but after a month..... The  screw above the left hand trigger fell out, and this bugged me because this was only after 32 days, so i decided to send it back, and not keep the new unit.

I was told though that the replacement unit was a factory refurb, and that it would be "just like a new unit ;)", so they sent me an advanced RMA; when i received the unit i compared the two closely; i found multiple problems, as the triggers made a metal contact noise, and shaking the device would make the device rattle, and that made me uneasy about my investment. The dpad was also very wonky, and loud, as the other unit wasn't; i called in to support, and the tech told me "it just has to break in" (lol), but i said what ever, as there is no talking sense to them.

After a month, and me keeping the unit to compare the two after a while; the screw to the replacement unit fell out, so i had to send back the other unit when i had time ( a month, and a half later), and waited for them to send me a box for the replacement unit, and send that back ( took about a month); by this time i realized the box was empty, and they were refusing to send me advanced replacement units due to mistrust, and told me to send them in, and that it would take two weeks each time ( o sweet).

Bsacially this happens over, and over again, and now i'm on my sixth device; two the other replacements wqere totally broken, and the screw fell out in 1-3 days, and the other one the same screw fell out in about a 1-2 weeks.

i'm guessing nivdia is just wasting time until the warranty is over, and i'm left with a broken refurb.

The warranty, and replacement policies are some retarded bullshit, and i suggest you don't buy a shield, as it will break on you, and you will be thrown into a game of endless ass tapping.

That doesn't sound cool at all. I like the idea of the shield, but I feel early adopters of new devices usually pay the price, as they're more like beta testers. I'll wait until they release a new version.

Considered getting a shield back in September. Went with a Nexus 7 2013 instead, and I don't regret my decision.

If a screw fell out I'd just screw it back in.

It's not that type of screw, and they should of used locktight.

The screws i recovered were stripped anyways.

Just look at the complaints about watch_dogs. We are all lab rats. For governments and corporations. Its MK Ultra and Agent Orange all over again.

But I forgot to say, the ethernet is probably for game streaming if you're using as a console attached to your tv, it will provide much better bandwidth. I think it was Linus who recommended a crazy awesome router if you're game streaming.

Well i mean the first shield is openly called a test for the shield 2; any other than that i don't know; Some Governments go for the social engineering thing, so i can see countries using people as lab rats, but that's by force, and with a corporation it relys on choice of the individual, so it's not a bad thing at all

I wondered why it would need a Ethernet! Thanks :D

I expected to be able to have a device without the screw falling out due to their incompetence of design, and knowledge of lock tight.

I haven't been able to use my device to much, as i have to send it back, and wipe all my data off the device each time.

You were probably just unlucky and this forum thread seems pretty whinny to me. Linus swears by his and I have a friend who has one and has had no problems. Not to mention It has good review overall.

Yes, because i'm totally lying about have 6 units, them breaking within a month every time, and that they sent me a refurbished unit after buying in little over 30 days prior; i also love to waste my time writing things LTT about fake stories.

Didn't you get the memo? You're not allowed to bad mouth nvidia on this forum and if Linus says something is good, you should blindly follow...

Well you acted like i'm the only one, and that not everyone has these problems, so you give off that vibe that you're not thinking it is true, or else you wouldn't call this "whiny", and why even say that?

That... was not the experience I had. I got a Shield back in November, and about a month in, one of the buttons stopped working. A couple short sessions with customer service later, they cross-shipped me a new (refurbished) one, free of charge. They even let me keep the second charger.

That sucks you got hosed. I have no idea why you're getting bum units... hell, I dropped mine on a tile floor last week, no damage at all. It's built like a brick shithouse.

I didn't act like it it said it. The Sheild gets good reviews and your problem seems to be one that doesn't happen very often. I you get "lying" from me saying that you were unlucky you are delusional. I called the post whiny because it seems less about warning against a product that is bad (which it isn't) and more about you just sharing an whining. If you did some research and found this was a VERY (not a handful of people on amazon) common problem then I would say this post had a valid point. Like i said I have a friend who has one and has had no problems with it, Linus gave it a good review, and it is, overall, a very well received product. I'm sorry you had a bad experience but please don't make other who might want the product think twice on an isolated incident. :)
