A few questions about Folding@Home

I just started folding about 2 hours ago and I have to say the last two hours have been confusing. I have a few questions about Folding:

1.) How long does it take for you guys to complete a Work Unit? My GPU is 15% completed and has 4.5 hours left, while my CPU has about 10% done and 6 hours remaining.

2.) Does folding at Full power increase my power bill?

3.) What is your PPD? I have 142,476 PPD.

4.) What is PPD? Does it mean I should be getting 142k work units per day or are points smaller units than work units?

Any help is appreciated!

@APrettyCoolWalrus I don't normally fold just because my laptop just can't handle the temperature for over-prolonging amounts of time & it's not powerful.

To answer a couple of your questions

  1. too long for me it's over 12hours or more
  2. since you're utilizing your cpu & gpu to it's maximum extent of 100% for XX amount of hours you'll surely add a fair amount of cost onto your electricity bill
  3. like I wrote above not much if not nothing (I do wanna contribute more though :()

If you ask this guy @Whaler_99 he can inform you.

1. It changes from task to task. Some take an hour or so, and some take a day for me.

2. Yes. You're going to be pulling more power from the wall than you would at idle.

3. Mine sits at around 360,000 PPD.

4. PPD is Points per day. It's an estimate of how many you should be getting (not how many WU). It tends to not be accurate though, as it seems to uses bonus points in the calculation, which don't always add up.

1. It's normal for cpu and gpu to spend a different amount of time on a wu considering that the completion time will vary from wo to wu, and gpu/cpu work units are different from eachother.

2. your hardware consumes more power under load than at idle, folding at full puts your hardware around 100% load and this will cost money.. it might not be very significant depending on your electricity prices and hardware.

3. right now im sitting at 490k, 142k is very respectable.

4. you get awarded points from the work units(wu's) you complete, points can vary from few hundred to several thousands or even hundreds of thousands per wu depending on what wu it is and how fast it is completed, so the amount of points really doesn't relate to the amount of wu's at all, ppd(points per day) is an average estimate of how many points you should get through the day, based on the wu you are currently working on.

Everyone pretty much covered it off... the PPD (Points) is just more of a bragging thing for users and teams for a "competitive" feel.

why do i get only 18K PPD with a 4770K @ 4.1 and a windforce gtx 780 OC?

I am a member of the PCMasterRace. I am terribly sad to announce that I own a PeasantStation 3 Super Slim. it's in a drawer away from my glorious PC.

maybe your gpu isn't running because you haven't set your slider to full?

Also, I noticed some GPU servers seem messed up last couple of days. My 780 been sitting idle because it keeps getting refused when requesting a work unit. Either way... send a screen shot of the advanced view and then we can see your settings.
