2014 Build ....Thoughts..?

Go to solution Solved by Thomas_the_3rd,

If you're not overclocking, why not go with the 4790?

Seems cool, adding more ssds/hdds will surely help and maybe you should go with a titan for that.

I'm not a specialist but If you're mostly using these programs I think it's good.

**** Update => I ended up going with the 4790 (non K) as well as the Titan black, both of which I received this morning. It took me about two hours to build the system, subject to a bit of cable management, which I have now completed. I'm just running some windows updates, but needless to say this system should be pretty good :) Thanks again for the input !!!

Ho hum chaps. So, having passed a week or so personally debating which components I should install on my 2014 build I have shortlisted the following:

CPU: 4790K

MOBO: Gigabyte Z97-UD5H-BK

Before I go any further, I must explain the following:

I not a gamer nor am I seeking to OC. I just want a stable PC that will do what it is supposed to:  WORK. Primarily for coding & Adobe CC. Ae and Pr also.  With that in mind, of all the Z97's that were recently released, the mobo that seemed fit for purpose was the ASUS Z97-WS. Emphasis on the WS (Work-Station). However, the nail in the coffin comes from the fact there are very little reviews on it... and the few on newegg are far from favorable. The same goes for other ASUS z97's too.  ASUS it seems doesnt have the best support either. All of which is a shame really... So alternatives for a stable non OC'ing board ... Cue Gigabyte's Z97-UD5H-BK... Stable, tested and 5 year warranty.

If I am wrong in my above deductions, please some one correct me. Now, back to the build:

RAM: 32GB Hyper X Fury 1866 (black)

SSD: Intel 730 240GB (more to be added later along with standard HDD's)

CPU Cooler: Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3

PSU: Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 750w

Case: Fractal R4 White Window

No GPU needed for now.... but will most likely add a evga 3gb something in the future...

So, any thoughts/opinions..?

Many Thanks :)

IMHO I would choose the ASUS Z97-WS. Here is a review http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/6292/asus-z97-ws-workstation-intel-z97-motherboard-review/index.html

Personally I would rather choose ASUS over Gigabyte. Where I live and from my own experience ASUS is better to deal with than Gigabyte. I am sure others have different opinions on that matter.

Thanks for that.... I really appreciate the response! It's always good to have people's opinions on such matters... important as they indeed are ! :)

I was initially going to go for the non 'K'...but the stock speed seems to be a notch higher, so I guessed it was worth the extra £20... Titan would be very nice to have. :) What about your view on the mobo side of things ?
