The ultimate "Man Cave?"

TRCornishboy

Recently I've been speaking to a lot of PC Case modders on Facebook, some coming up with fantastic systems such as flight simulators that had the computer physically around the cab and such. This sparked an idea in my head, what's my favourite game, Farming SImulator 2013, what do I love in real life, Farming. How can I apply these two together? - Despite the literal link :P.

The literal idea is to build a PC in a cube case, preferbly an M-ITX system, low end, nothing special as such, probably not even running a dedicated GPU I'm still not sure on how much the actual gear itself will cost. I have a budget of 2 grand for everything. Now, I could spend £300 on a cheap set of monitors (3 of them obviously), and £250 on a Logitech G27 and a couple more quid on a few joysticks, but then, it's not realistic. Plus the Modding Community of Farming Simulator recently had a leak on what could be coming for us alone!

Now, if I can find the correct cab with levers possibly still in tact then I could modify this one to be as realistic as I can. The cab itself I plan to use will be one of these, my personal favourite (:

Planned PC Specs so far: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/TRCornishboy/saved/xv3mP6 (Green means defiantly, red means may change)

CPU - Intel Core i5-4670k

CPU Cooler - Corsair H60

Motherboard - Asus H81M-E

RAM - Kingston 8GB 1600MHz

Storage - Kingston HyperX 3k 120GB

Seagate 1TB 7200RPM

Video Card - MSI GeForce GTX 770 Twin Frozr

Case - Fractal Design Core 1000

PSU - EVGA 750W

Optical Drive - Lite-On iHDS118

Monitors - 3 x BenQ GL2460HM 24" 1080P's
Case Fans - 2 x Corsair AF 120 Red LED's
Fractal Design 92mm

Pretty simply idea as such, what do you guys think of the idea? The cab itself will cost maybe £200, it's hard to put a price on it and finding the right one at the right cost may affect which one I actually do end up getting. I don't plan on actually making it run windows, I was hoping to use Linux, probably Ubuntu as I have the most experience with this one.

What do you guys think of it? Is it a good idea? Has someone ever done it before?

Please let me know.

I am really interested to see this... I will follow.

I actually played Farming Sim 2013 for a few months like nearly every day. It was a lot of fun and a good learning experience for me, since previously I knew pretty much nothing about farming. If you're really into something like this, I think this is a pretty clever idea! I've never heard of a Farming Sim tractor setup hahah, this would be something worth a youtube video if you do it!

That was done by the game developers. You think I can use 3ds max? haha Sketch Up is all for my plans (:

Thanks for the support though everyone. I'm still finalizing details before I start spending the money on it (:

Basic idea for the actual placing of computer, screens, levers, seat and such is currently being drawn up. It's difficult to work out with all the wiring, and too where I shall put it as well. Will have to go in the garage I expect for now xD

I just saw this post and the first thing that went through my mind was whaaaaaaaaat the f.  It would be really cool if you did something like that guy who made a car with a monitor that converted input from a camera to 8-bit picture, so driving was like an old mariokart simulator or something.  So you could do that with a tractor and make farming irl like the simulator!  or you could have a drone follow you around and do the same thing if you wanted the third person aspect

  • 1 month later...

This project has begun, I'm in the final stages of purchasing a tractor, the best part is I know for a fact my current PC will fit behind the actual seat in the cab, so I can use that case, (Corsair Spec 01 - I think). Move my PC into a new case, or my Zalman Z11 for now. Then get the parts in time, still finalizing on some parts. The tractor will only just fit on my drive if its the same size as the one I've driven before and taken home xD. Will have to see.
