love this series, one of my favorites! cheers

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only a GTX 1080, just a single 1080, where my glorious PC once stood....

For that is all I need, For the Emperor of Man, Jen-Hsun Huang, protects. We march for Nvidia, and we shall know no fear!

Linus! Those outlets aren't upside-down they are right side up!

Imagine this if you drop of piece of tin on the "right side up" ones what's gonna happen? you'll get electrocuted!

Now imagine the same thing with the "upside-down" outlets what will happen? You'll be grounded (not by your parents or wife)

So it's smart to have the outlets placed that way for more reasons than you said in the episode.

Wonder if there's an alternative product for that molex power supply. Reviews say that they are shipping a different model now and it can't maintain its voltage as more things are added, and it also gets hot.

I would give a serous warning about cheap/off brand External Molex Plug or hard dive external power bricks.

In my office we have bought loads (10+) of these about half have melted hard dives sometimes it’s the one we got for £5 online sometimes it’s the £40.  Generally the voltage is all over the place dependant on the load.  It seems like there are a lot of Chinese knockoffs on amazon.

It quite a expensive problem our worst one was plugging a new ssd in to the new £40 one and it melting the ssd with smoke coming out of it.

Be warned test what you get first before plunging in anything expensive.

Despite the voltage issues would that molex plug be useful  when doing a watercooling loop?

My handy tech recommendation is a PSU tester like this one , (this is not the one I have, the one I bought is no longer available, I'm not specifically recommending this one because I don't know the seller), it's under $6 without shipping. The reason this is awesome is when you sleeve your PSU you can tell if you did everything correctly (saving time), and when you want to test something you don't need to short the green and the black from the 24pin connector.

Suggestion for episode 5. Anker 5 port usb wall charger, it's self explanatory, it's a wall charger for usb's (like you get with your phone/tablet), but instead of only having 1 port, you get 5. It's great for saving space, travelling and you free up the extra outlets for other things. Before buying it, I was using my laptop in hibernate mode to charge my 3 devices (phone, tablet, psp) and as you can imagine, it was frustrating having to plug everything into a laptop next to my bed.

My Build

GPU: MSI GTX 1080 ARMOUR | CPU: i7 9700k | Ram: 16gb 3200mhz Motherboard: ASUS Maximus XI Gene | Storage: 2x 1TB NVME 1x 500GB NVME 1x 120GB NVME | Case: Corsair 570X

Linus, is there somewhere we can make recommendations for your next Handy Tech video? I'm always watching these going "Damn, why don't they ever mention X, or Y?" I guess I'll just toss one down here, and you can check it out if you want, or if it simply helps someone else here, well that's good too.

Anker 40 Watt USB Desktop Charger (25.99 USD) http://www.amazon.com/Anker%C2%AE-40W-Desktop-Charger-Black/dp/B00GTGETFG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1404707910&sr=8-1&keywords=anker+5+port

I can't say enough good things about this charger. It has a combined charging speed of 8 amps across all 5 ports, and it will dynamically shift more power to devices that will accept it, i.e. Extra Amperage of power delivery isn't wasted on my Pebble while my Tablet is plugged in. Very nice, good build quality, doesn't get super hot, even when charging with all 5 ports, and it's looks good too. Instead of throwing a half million USB wall chargers on a powerstrip (like I used to do) I use one of these and get stuff done neatly and efficiently. It's also extremely portable, and includes a velcro cable tie to keep the excess power cable tidy. It's also great for traveling, because there is nothing worse than finding yourself in a hotel room at the end of a long drive and realizing all your devices are low, and you only brought one charger. Now you can charge up your phone, your tablet, your camera, and still have a couple ports left over in case a travel companion forgot theirs.

Damnit, just caught that, you were a little ahead of me, but great minds think alike!

i7-4790k @4.6GHz, 16GB GSkill Ares RAM, Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming G1, Strix 970, RM1000 PSU, 128GB Sandisk SSD, 1TB Barracuda, 3TB WD Green, CM Storm Scout II
